I am a big fan of Corrosion X but i recently got a silicone filled crankshaft and wanted to make sure it will not mess up the silicone.
Thanks

I've never heard of a silicone filled crankshaft before...What is the purpose of that exactly? My curiosity is piqued :)

I dont believe Corrosion X would have an ill effect on silicone but then again I've never directly tried it. I have used it to water proof an ESC and it didnt have any ill effect on the plastic case for it. I know thats not silicone but its as close as I can get to a guess :)

ok, the crankshaft was drilled and filled i thought they filled them with silicone but i guess I'm wrong sorry about that.

so what ever it is that they fill them with after being drilled is what I'm concerned with.

thanks again

I have no idea why they would drill them out and fill them with something else.
Drilling them out would obviously weaken them. Filling them would leave you with 2 dissimilar materials that would expand and contract at different rates.
I sure could use a link for that kind of info.

I don't have a link, and I am a furthest shot from a engine guru, but I thought it was done to make the crank lighter, and to make a smoother ramp into the crank bore. Not that I have a firm grasp on this, but I sorta get the jist, it sounds like a tuning aid?

I have noticed that some of the more expensive (at least to me) nitro engines come with a drilled and filled crank.
it is mentioned in text and shows it in the video, that is one nice looking engine, i would hate to see that engine get all dirty i would need a pope mobile equivalent for protection before running it. its a non issue as I'm not willing to pay that much for just an engine....at least for now....

Interesting. I havent bought an new nitro engines in a couple/few years so I wasn't aware that drill and fill was becoming a thing now. I dont see how it would improve things all that much but I'm no engine guru either. Id be really curious to know what @Extreme RC Mods has to say about the drill and fill crankshafts. :)

I have one other question though. The silicone is inside the crankshaft so how is corrosion x going to come into contact with the inside of your engine?
