Is a .28 bb to much

I was wondering if a .28bb was to much power for a 5309 model I want to be able to keep the front wheels down also will the gears and driveshafts hold up(stock).
 
I would recommend against a standard .28. You might want to try a Picco .26 Maxx. It's designed to drop right into the Revo with only a big block motor mount.
 
picco .26 maxx is the way to do imho. . .i have on on my revo and it has been the best motor i have ever run, gobs upon gobs of power and plenty of top end, and it can keep the wheels down as long as you want it too, but if you want it to stand up on the back wheels, it will
 
the picco26 maxx or the one i have for sale its rb323 almost new ..
 
I just put the picco 26 max in mine and it is right on the edge of having to much power. it's an awesome engine and just as they say, "all you need is a BB mount."

You just might have to loosen the slipper clutch to keep it from doing wheelies all the time and to save your tranny gears. I'm very impressed with the picco 26.

I would not recommend this tuning option. Traction control is not the purpose of the slipper. All you'll do by loosening the slipper is replacement the pads at a rediculous rate. If you want to keep the front end down the only reasonable option is to learn throttle control. You don't have to open it all ALL the way, ALL the time.
 
Gearing it a bit taller will also help make an engine more manageable.

I ran a XTM24.7 in mine with a BB conversion. It was a 3.3 chassis and I geared it right around stock gearing. Wheelies all the time and seemed heavy in the rear due to the larger engine, header, pipe which caused hard landings that bent the engine bay frequently.

That engine is in no way a power house, but it was reliable and ran well. Compared to even a mediocre 28 in a revo would be undrivable to me. I thought the 18TM I had was much more manageable in that chassis. It's just too light for the bigger engines IMHO.

To each his own though. Some are more talented than I and can finesse a truck much better. Throwing an LRP28 in my aftershock and savage was far more manageable than my old revo though. Kind of sad that I got rid of the revo as it was nice to have something smaller/lighter/quieter and easier on fuel to futz around with than my two fuel guzzling hogs.

This was only an option if he was racing and trying to be fast and keep the truck under control. I do believe he said, "I want be able to keep the front end down." So I assumed he was racing. I may be wrong.
