This may not suit all of you guys, but I went to the model expo in York Pa this weekend and these are a few of the interesting things I saw. The expo is predominantly geared towards home shop metal work, mainly in the realm of steam powered engines and models, and internal combustion engines. Most are static displays (all work and run), but alot of them are R/C, or larger. Some are historic diplays too. Anyway, here's the pix and explinations.

Most dangerous toy ever:

Working model of a steam teactor:

An even larger steam tractor (this one sold for 10K at the auction):

A compound marine engine a friend of mine designed and built in 1956. The tug boat it's going in is nearly 5 feet long:

A miniature, fully functional, Bridgeport vertical milling machine:

A very interesting scale model of a real engine (read the display tag Chris). It's essentially an inline oduble acting gas engine that acts like a 4 cylinder, though it only has 2 physical pistons:

And now for some real eye candy (Ed take notes and get inspired). One of only 2 known model boats with a Conley V-8 in the world. This one didn't run, but I can only imagine what it's like. The name of the boat was inspired by the 1100 odd screws that went into the construction of it. And yes, it's R/C:

And lastly, look who I saw hanging out in the boat section:

Nice stuff!
I hear there is going to be a model show similar to this one in LA soon, I may have to go check it out. The time and dedication put into these things amazes me.

I used to have a gas powered pogo stick. I won it in a contest when I was a kid. It disappeared one day shortly after I decided to go down the block across all the neighbors lawns and back up again. Hmmm I wonder what happened to it?

There's a model expo in Puyallup Washington coming up at the end of this month. We've gone to it every year.

It's mostly r/c planes, but they have r/c cars and trains also

There is no way I could make rate at work with that Bridgeport Error LOL. Later

Pee Wee

Unfortunately I didn't take hardly any video this trip, though I did last summer. I took over 400 pix on the summer trip (called Iron Fever), and nearly 100 pix this trip (called Cabin Fever). I'll try to post some gallery pages in a couple of days so you guys can see the pick of the litter.

Pee Wee: Yeah, that Bridgeport was kind of tiny. He had also made a semi working (functional) bed mill (whatever the hell that is), I'll definately post that in my gallery page. And yes, you probably would make rate if the parts were real small.

Nice pics Error, that boat is awesome. Who has that much time?

Ed,

I remember reading about those pogo sticks when I was 10 or 12 in Popular Science. Did it work??

Boy did I miss this thread. I would love to have the Bridgeport vertical milling machine as an item for my office. The tandem 2 cylinder and the Conley V8 would make center pieces to anyones collection. I'm going to have to pay more attention to these sort of expos.

Very cool pictures Error! Post some more when you get a chance. :)

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get the pic sizes down to a resonable level for the gallery I'm gonna post to my site. The collection has 360 total pix from both expos (last August and this past weekend). I'll post the link as soon as it's ready.

:ahh: It seems that we have some machinist here, I've seen that the bridgeport has catched the atention of other people.

Gallery is online.

Here's my gallery of pix from the two York model expos. 360 pix total. Sorry if the pix are 640x480 and compressed a bit, but I had to get the file sizes down.

York PA model expos.

hey Error i went there too i was pretty coold to see all that stuff.
anybody in pa here of the HayCreek FAIR/festival.they got a bunch of working steam engines, and old cars and stuff

but i like that model Expo i wish i would of took some pics

NitroKing, you were at the show last weekend? Damn, we might have bumped into each other. Did you see the hottie workin the DRU booth?

Stretch, you can order the plans for that gatlin gun. It works too. .22 cal hand crank, and it's legal w/o a class 3 license. That one sitting there was something like 3 or 4 K-bills ready to rock.

nahh i must of missed that...and i was at the one this weekend.
me and my dad like to go to them.

Next time me and Dad go, I'll let ya know. Maybe we can hook up for a hotdog and some fries.

Hopefully I'll have the steam boat I'm gonna start on soon finished and I'll get to run it at the next show.

I'm pretty sure they're gonna have another Iron Fever in mid August. The last one was the first, and I'm pretty sure they're gonna have it again. Alot of folks that were there in August weren't there last weekend, due to the weather, so...
