I am just getting into the RC Racing scene. I'm looking at building my first 1/10 2WD off road buggy. I am looking at a couple used rollers, to ease some of the financial burden. The local shop supports primarily Xray and Associated, but they have a couple used Shumacher chassis. Are there any two brands that you can mix and match parts between? For example, would a Losi accept Team Associated parts, or a Schumacher accept Xray parts, or any other combination of manufacturers??

The only mixing and matching is body pins, screws and nuts, and sometimes bodies and wheels. Electronics is a given as they are universal.

You may get lucky on arms but that's it and even then you may need to file the ears down. If it was the same brand, say traxxas slash 2wd, then all the stampede, bandit, etc parts are all interchangeable.

Your best bet is to stay in 1 brand and expand on it. I still recommend doing some base research to make sure you've got interchanging parts.
Sometimes between 1 gen and another of a car, the changes are almost impossible to tell.
In other cases they share a name, body pins and a few screws.
A recent example where you could make an easy mistake would be with the Traxxas Jato.
The old car being a 2wd nitro and the new car, just released, is a 4x4 electric car.
You would have found it pretty tough to locate a brand new Jato 2wd nitro but used are around for sure!
Associated RC10 cars are like that too although I can't be certain of the new stuff, the original RC10 was different than the B2,B3 platform, was different than the B4 platform etc...

IF you buy used, buy cars that are still reasonably new and have good parts support.
An old car is cool but they can be expensive and not always easy to find the parts you need.
