I'm looking to move up to 1/8 nitro buggies from 1/10 electric. I want an RTR buggy that is reliable and strong for mainly bashing and racing mates. My LHS stocks heaps of inferno parts so they could be a good option for me but lots of posts report that the inferno 7.5 rtr is crap. Can anyone be more specific about it's faults? Are they parts that could be upgraded as they break or are there no hop-up parts available? Any specific info would be greatly appreciated.

IMO the 7.5 rtr is meant more as a fun entry to the sport if thats what your looking for the 7.5 would be a good choice but if you have a track you would probably be better going for the 777 even the basic model is very race capable:)

What are the major differences between the 7.5 and the 777? is it just upgraded parts or are they totally different buggies?

I believe the chasis/front end geometrys are different. Also the RTR I believe comes with more plastic than aluminium parts. Do a search on Ebay, you can get the 777 Sp1 for around $400 nib. Like cotti said the RTR is more an entry level buggy not a racer. I wouldnt even use it as a basher.

Another option is Ofna, they have a huge line of RTR cars at affordable prices. Probably a better bet than the Kyosho RTR.

Agreed; look into an Ofna; most LHS's stock parts for them. Call around and ask which 8th scales they support; if they won't tell you, remember that attitude for future reference.

Ofna's are pretty good on the durability as well.

Kyoshos', on the other hand... Getting parts for them is rather difficult, at best, since Great Planes dropped them.
