I'm currently in the process of painting my F350 lid. I'm using a Gravity Feed Hvlp touch up gun (For autos) that can be cranked down really thin. Anyway, I'm using a Dark Forest green "House of Kolor" candy paint, with pearl reflections ghost flames. It will end up being a 4 stage basecoat then Ill probably clear it about 4 times (for the Bling!) Just thought Id share my fun. Ill be sure to post pics when I get done

My concern is that the automotive paints aren't really made for the plastic bodies of an r/c. It might start to pull away when flexing during a crash.

Theres a stuff called FlexSeal that is a bonding coat that I've seen sprayed on the rubber basketballs, then dried and dribbled on concrete without anything happening to the paint. I figured Id give it a shot.

Try it out on some scrap cutouts just to make sure. Let me know how it works out, I think there's some automotive paint that I have here from previous paintjobs laying around. More than enouh to paint an r/c.

You do realize that the body gets painted on the inside, right ?

the way that you are painting the body and using HOK its gonna chip and its not gonna be minor neither. they probably use somehting waterbased on those basketballs. i want to see what happens by the way where can i buy this flex seal stuff.

Yeah I know I gotta paint it on the inside of the car. I relized that after I posted it when I typed it. I think I might just paint the outside. I'm not real sure yet what to do. I might just end up painting it with just the Base coat with the kandy.

lol..Waterbased Automotive paint?? LOL.. This was a dude who came into the body shop I worked came in to do a demo for the Flex Seal. He didnt suggest painting basketballs with it..lol

{quote}where can i buy this flex seal stuff.
It was from a Spies Hecker rep. I just got mine though the shop. I got a gallon of it for like $240 so its spendy but I've had the gallon for like a year and a half so it lasts. I used it already on plastic grills on my truck, and other misc. stuff on my truck.

I've sprayed HOK on bodies before with no more chipping than what I get with pactra metallics.
I suggest you use their intercoat clear to mix your color with and add some flex agent to it.

the only thing that worries me is the reducer on this thin of plastic. The body I bought came pre cut so I'm gonna wait until I get another one to paint this so I can use a small piece as a template. (Or Ill just risk it. I'm not so sure yet.)
