My PC has been stripped to the case and put in the trash so I'll be on the laptop till I get the new one built.

Here's where the dork part comes in; I can't, for the life of me remember how to get a shortcut icon on the desktop that's from the site, such as eBay with the eBay logo or RCNT.

Several different ways. I don't generally use shortcuts like that but, you can right click on desktop, go to new, then shortcut, and just type in the link to the site.

I know how to set shortcuts on the desktop but I'm looking to get them with the site logo on them instead of just FireFox icons for every internet site.

Ok, right click on the desktop, select New>Shortcut. Enter the address into the bar, hit next. Next screen, type the name for the shortcut: RCNT (or whatever you want it to be). Finish.

Now you have your shortcut, with the default browser's logo.

Right click the icon, select properties. It should open to the Web Document tab. Click Change Icon, and find your desired icon.

You need to already have the .ico icon file, and I suggest placing the .ico file on your desktop to make it easier to find until you are done.

There used to be a way, where you would just drag it from the address bar. But for some reason, now it goes to the default browser's logo every time.

I knew there was an easy way.
Problem is, I don't have the RCNT or the other icons I need. How do I get them?

WoodiE should have the RCNT icon, any other you may need to get form administrators of those sites. You can also take the image right off a site, open it in photoshop (or whatever photo editing software you have) and Save As.... an .ico file in the size you need.

Thanks, man. That's what I'm going to do. I just downloaded a couple of freeware icon builders but I don't care for either one.

With Windows Vista, I right clicked on the desktop, Windows asked "What would you like to create a shortcut for?", I then copy and pasted RCNT's web address into the space and it brought with it the icons.

I just went from Vista to 7 about a month ago. Maybe I don't have it any more.

I just found Falcon Icon Studio and it's able to open Photoshop files, so I might be able to do what I need. Having FireFox icons for every site doesn't help finding them.

When you create then icon and double click on it to go to the website the icon should auto populate to the shortcut. It may take a couple of times. When I was experimenting with it someof mine auto populated the first time and a couple took two or three attempts.

I created my own icons in PhotoShop last night, then opened them with Falco icon Studio, saved them as .ico files then did the normal change icon routine. Perfect, just perfect. Finally.

Now you've graduated to geek! :second_place:

Thank you. Thank you so much. I couldn't be more proud. :third_place:

Let's see if I can get this loaded....
It's the RCNT icon I made.
