Hey all, like the title says, I'm new to the RC and nitro truck world. My involvement was purely accidental ( I walked into a hobby shop to kill some time and decided I had to have one!)

So I surfed eBay for a bit and found a used Traxxas Revo 3.3 for a phenomenal price and the seller lives 30 miles so I picked it up and saved on shipping.

Here's my concern: since acquiring the truck I took it back to the LHS and he found a lot of problems; the trans housing was cracked, the reverse gear had broken inside causing some gears to get wrecked, the front bulkhead was shattered and a sad attempt at gluing it was done, the starter motor sticks, the spur gear on the slipper clutch was missing teeth and the clutch was toasted.

All the above mentioned items have been repaired by me, following the diagrams from Traxxas website. After that wall of words my question is: should I contact the seller about all the repairs I had to make and ask for some money back or just suck it up and consider it a learning experience. I'm asking here because I'm not sure if these are things that normally wear/break on a nitro RC truck?

Thanks all, I'm digging the site, learning quite a bit here!

i would still contact the seller and log a complaint with ebay. if the needed repairs were not listed in the ad i say you have a casem especially if you have the receipts from the LHS.

if nothing else, you should leave poor feedback for the seller so others dont get caught in the mess.

Thanks for the input...

I've decided that I'm gonna send him an email regarding the status of the truck and what it has taken me to get it "road" worthy. My GF worked in the public relations biz and she will help me in drafting the letter, mainly to prevent it from becoming me bashing him.

Thanks again. Hopefully I'll have it all fixed up soon and can get to bashing with it!

PS loving the site, getting lots of cool info

In his ad, did it say something at the bottom like, "due to the nature of this hobby, all sales are final"? If there was a disclaimer, you get what you get. Was this truck talked up in his add, or at least supposed to be in running order?

X2 This where it would have been a good idea to do a little research on your part, sometimes a good deal is not a good deal at all, but at least now you are a great site with lots of great information, I say learn from your mistake unless it was said it was all in working order and in this case would have been false advertisement.

Yeah his ad did say that, however, when I asked him if it ran or there were any major issues with it he said no. When the guy at the LHS took it for a tune up and found the cracked trans housing and it's subsequent inability to go forward or reverse due to the reverse gear being in pieces, would lead me to believe the seller knew there was an issue and failed to disclose said problem.

At this point I'm over it. It's up an running, aside from one small issue that I'll research before posting a thread about.

I know it's buyer beware... Lesson learned.

Thanks all

What did you pay for it? If you got it for a really good price, you might have expected some problems.
If you picked it up you should have given it a good look. That's not something you get to do with many eBay items.
At the very least, give him negative feedback for falsely representing the truck's problems.
Since you've repaired it, you are no longer able to get a refund.

I guess I got a good deal on it, $250 cash...

I picked it up and looked it over, he started the engine, but didn't drive it around, the wheels rolled freely without the engine running, however when I tried to run it, it wouldn't go forward or reverse.

I have no experience as to what to look for with these and I didn't notice anything that night. I took it home then the next day to the LHS for a tune up as that's all the seller said it needed. I'm not looking for a refund, like I said buyer beware, and as far as I'm concerned it's in better shape now and only cost me a few bucks to get it there. I just think this guy may have taken advantage of me by not disclosing the repairs necessary to get it running...

New trans gears, $20, case, $10, bulkhead, $15... So, $295 for a revo still isn't that bad. Being new, you didn't know what to look for. The guys a bit of a jerk for not listing it because he obviously knew about the problems.

At least now your in the hobby and that $45 extra you spent will soon be a drop in the bucket. ;)
