Effective 02/20/08 another increase. I love how they tried hide it as a price "decrease" in their email notice. So they drop the insertion fee a nickel, and raise the final value fee from 5.25% to 8.75% on any item $25 or under.

I bet we will start seeing overall listings begin to decline. I know won't be selling anything on e-bay at these rates. They were already making more than me on the items I sell.

How does any of this translate into a price decrease? I am through with ebay!

Dang, I thought it was at 4.9% How come they don't post this up? I feel for you man. I use Craigslist now. All my RC's I don't use or need to sell have gone to Craigslist. It takes longer sometomes but your price is your price.

So it's getting pretty close to 10% off the top just for doing business with them? Plus Paypal fees? I'm thinking there won't be as many bargains to be found anymore.

No doubt Candyman, I am sure there will be less people selling, or, they are going to inflate the shipping even more to help cover fees. A $5 item is going to cost you $20 for shipping. I really wish there was another auction site other than feebay.

Jon, I have been using Craigslist too, but unfortunately that's like going back in time to local only ads. Who's gonna click on every state and city to see whats for sale where.

It's really a shame the greedy pigs at ebay were not satisfied with the billions in profits they were already making.

Joe, it's ironic, my man. Literally, as I'm reading this thread my e-mail notifier pings and sure enough, there's an e-mail from eBay about their fee increases. I've got a few things I need to get rid of, so it looks like I'm going to get them on there before the increases kick in.

Seriously, I have no problem with a company wanting to make more money, but the way they're going about it is all wrong. Maybe it's because their current CEO is retiring and the newbie wants to make an impact on Wall Street? BASTAGES!

I try not to sell on ebay I first post on Craiglist for my area. Speciality items go on ebay because of the larger number of visitors.

But, the starting price always covers my expenses for ebay, nomore bargains.

Basically, they're a monopoly. They're the big kid on the block that has it all. They also own Pay Pal. If their current CEO is retiring, I'm sure he bails out with a golden parachute worth close to a 250 million .
I've often been charged over $8 for shipping, and then find it in my mailbox at $1.80.

Aren't there other auction type places to list on?

Since I just got an Email from R/C Planet that the rims I ordered a while back are not in stock, I cancelled the order and went looking elsewhere. (I checked the site, and there's still no indication that they're out of them...sux)
In my search I came across R/C Universe. It seems to be an auction site ONLY for RC related items.
Anyone used it before? I've heard the name for years, but I thought it was only a forum.

I hate to go to RCU... Nitroaddict went there. I used to check it out but o much crap you have to go through..

Yikes. I stopped selling ages ago on ebay. Too many people trying to scam sellers out of their stuff. I stick to here, or good ol' yard sales for larger non-RC items.

I think you will just see an increase in shipping and handling fees. That's where most people try to make up for the fees.

Joe, I just read the same e-mail and it ticked me off too! I don't sell as much as I used to because of their already too high fees, but I think this might be the end for me as well.
Rolex, if you see an item that is obviously being way overcharged for shipping, you can turn them in to eBay for "fee avoidance". A lot of people will charge high shipping fees because they get the money from it, eBay hasn't started charging a fee on the shipping cost yet but I figure they will try to sooner or later. I have to agree with Jetmech, more people will be padding their shipping fees.

That's awful that they are charging so much. I think it all comes down to where they are making most of their money... small business owners. The retailers/resellers will just deal with it and continue doing what they do. The sad part is that it is totally screwing Joe Shmoe who wants to sell a used camera or some vintage toys twice a year. It's just not worth it. Tell you the truth I don't think I've ever sold anything onEbay. Everything I've ever sold over the net has been here on good ole' RCNT.

Not only are the fees getting totally out of hand, now you can no longer leave negative feedback for a deadbeat bidder...

Feedback Changes

The eBay Feedback system was designed to provide a simple, honest, accurate record of member experiences. Focusing on customer service includes doing everything we can to grow customer confidence in our sellers.

* Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback.

* Feedback more than 12-months old won't count towards your Feedback percentage.

WTF!!! Now you bid on my auction, run the price waaaaaaaaay up, I get slammed with crazy ass final value fees, then you don't pay and I can't leave you a negative? You have got to be friggin kidding me!!!!

Also, if you only sell occasionally on feebay you are not going to have past feedbacks count towards your trader rating?

How is any of this an improvement to ebay? I really hope this all comes back to bite them in the ass!! NOW is the time for someone to step up and create some competition to evilbay! As I said before, I am done with ebay!

That feedback rule looks absolutely stupid. It basically negates any effect your rating as a buyer has. So you're right. I can be an absolutely assbag buyer and I'll see no damage to my rating. That's assinine.

If I knew how to do it, I'd almost think about starting some competition.

Yep, you can be as rude as you want, as demanding as you want, take as long as you want to pay, and still keep a perfect feedback rating, since buyers can only receive a positive feedback. What ass klown thought this poop up?

I would help you if I knew how to do it too, and had the funds to start it.

It's only a matter of time. This is what drives compeitition. Somebody out there has a better idea and the means to make it happen. It's a big market out there. Plenty for one or two more big players IMO.

The more I read of their new policies the more disgusted I get.

Safe Payments
To help ensure more buyers are protected, in some cases we'll require sellers to offer either PayPal or a merchant credit card to customers. PayPal buyer protection covers most qualified transactions up to $2000.00 USD.

Sellers will only be required to provide this safe payment option to customers in certain situations:

* For listings in riskier categories, like computers and cell phones
* If the seller has 5% or more dissatisfied customers
* If the seller has less than 100 Feedback

In a small number of cases (fewer than 5% of all payments on eBay), PayPal will hold payment funds until either the buyer has left positive Feedback or 21 days have passed without a claim.

Are they friggin for real! Now, let me get this right. I sell my old cell phone on ebay, the buyer waits a month to pay me, then does not leave me feedback, paypal is going to hold my money for 21 days? God forbid he leaves me a negative because there was tiny scratch on the back of the phone, then what? Is PP going to keep my money? refund it to the butthead? You have got to be kidding me! Then I can not leave this butthead a negative after waiting 30 days for payment, and 21 more to get my damn money. All the while pp and eb already got their cut which would be bigger than mine in the first place. No f-ing way will I be selling on evilbay anymore.

Why doesn't ebay just lay out a big red carpet for all the scammer buyers out there. Holy poop!!!!!!!!!

While eBay might be anything far from a saint I'm not seeing the huge deal here with their price increases.

Lets say you are selling something and it sold for $1,000.00 - off of a thousand dollar sell it's going to cost you $40.32 in listing fee's and final sale fees if my math is correct which is only $2.52 more then what it has been. If that extra $2.52 is going to break your bank on selling then I agree eBay probably isn't going to be for you.

Even on a $25 dollar sell, the final sell fee would have been $1.31 the new final sell fee would be $2.19, however the listing fee for a $25 is .05 cheaper.

When you calculate all the fees for a $25 item for both the old and new fee's it's not a huge difference as it may seem. The old pricing would have cost you $1.51 to list and final sale, the new price would cost you $2.34 list and sale - a difference of $0.83. Again if this .83 is going to break the bank then ebay isn't for you.

It's all business really, EVERYTHING goes up, period. I'm not a old guy by any means and even in my short time on this planet I can't name you one thing that I have or do purchase that has gone down in price, everything has gone up. You either adjust or you don't. If you selling on ebay as a second income you either increase your prices to make up for the cost if you really are counting on that .83 or if you are just someone selling something you don't want anymore then think of it as whatever you get for the item regardless has made you more money then it sitting in your attic collecting dust.

Just my 2cents.

-Michael
