idle problem

my savage ss 4.6 seems to idle to fast when i adjust it to slow it down it runs ok but when i put into reverse the car moves on its own if i adjust it anmore it cuts out??? it doesn't move forward on its own but does in revers? any ideas??

Does it run good otherwise? If your a little rich on the lsn, the engine will be more likely to stall at idle rpms. You may have to lean the lsn a hair, then see if it will idle any lower. Just don't over lean it. A stronger clutch spring is another option. You should be able to tune the problem away though.
