i ran my hpi super nitro rally today,i have a OS .12CV-X inside.I always run it at 210-220 F.With the hot temperature of today and the body on it,he reached 280 F.WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What a discovery!!!!!!!!!!I'm sure at this temp the car reached 45 mph!!!It was amazing the speed deliver by this engine.Smoke blue at every throttle (1/4,1/2,3/4 and full throttle). He was perfect but like i said the temp was 280 F.Is it ok to stay at this temp, anyway i don't want to come back at 210-220F.Now i got a thrill!!!!!!everyone said that blue smoke is HEALTHLY so why not stay at this temp?I never so much smoke at 210-220 so.....what you think guys.

I run my 12R SS at 270-280 all day with the body on. 210-220 sounds pretty cool for a .12... I would think. Smaller engines typically run hotter. 210-220 are the kind of temperatures monster trucks run with .21s and big blocks like that.

It might be a tad hot. Usually 12s should be run about 240 to 270 but only 10 degrees isn't that big of a deal. I wouldn't worry about it. How is that engne?? I am thinking about getting one for my RS4 3 SS.

the engine is much better then the .15Fe that come with the kit.easy to tune and plenty of power.Cheap also!!!!!!!!!I suggest you to buy the .15 cv-r,its twice the power but around the same price.

282 is a little high IMO. Depending on the engine, it could be anywhere from 170-260. I know my novarossi does about 240 or so.

i read somewhere 270F was ok.anyway i will try 260 but if speed goes down too much ,i will comeback to 280.:hehe:

I run my cv engines right around 250. They do run A LOT faster in the high 200's, but Id like them to last a little longer, so I keep them in the mids.

Why opt for the higher temps? I mean are you racing it? Keeping it a few degrees cooler will greatly increase the life of your engine.

Maybe but I'm tired to bash it at low speed. With my discovery ,i got a thrill. It so much fun to watch go at that speed.I dont have any problem with changing engine every 3 gallon.

There is nothing wrong with running at 280, especially on an OS mill. HOWEVER, I will tell you this, the hotter you run them and the longer you run them hot, the more often you will have to rebuild it. This is a simple fact.

Always tune for performance, not just temp. Just always keep in mind, hotter temps equal a lesser life span on the internals. Simple physics.

Glad you found the sweet spot and are having fun!

OS actually says to tune for performance not temps. I too have noticed my OS mills run waaaay better in the mid-upper 200s. As long as you see a nice trail of smoke you should be just fine.

About this nice trail of smoke thing.. I was watching newnitrofan's vid.. his rigs are really blowing out the smoke.

With 16% oil, I see a good puff when I take of from a stop, and a decent puff when I get on it, but oter then thatm it just doesn't smoke much. No trail behind my car at all.. And sometimes I can't even notice any if it's at a good clip. I'm running at 250-270.

Am I doing something wrong, or do someengines just not leave a trail?

If you are in the right temperatures then you should have nothing to worry about. Good luck.
