Sorry, watching UFN and Chuck says he's putting Randy "the Natural" Coture to sleep Feb 4th at UFC 57. Wow, that's gonna be a good fight!

booooooo!

UFC's gone astray from its true chin-kicking, head-biting roots. They all seem to have the same fighting styles and the whole reality show was a kick in the pants..."boo-hoo i'm getting paid to workout and be on tv...boo-hoo"

NSantana,

I pretty much agree with you on this man - I remember when I first seen UFC and couldn't believe the down right 'fights' they had, now it's does seem like the same ol style, dance around the ring for the first min or so, punch, lay on top of the guy (something about that just bothers me), then put them in a head lock until they tap out. Before it was "I'm gonna beat the hell out of you for fun" kind of stuff, now not so much.

The stand up and strike style is making a comeback, check out UFC 53, not as much grappling as prior UFCs. A few very nice knockouts in that one.

As much as I like Randy Couture, Lidell is going to tear him apart. In their last meet Randy looked a lot slower and hesitant than prior fights.

Yeah I agree SD, Liddell is on top of his game right now and though he's not much younger, Randy is getting up there.

You know, the old UFC's were more of an all out street brawl and in comes this guy that knows something none of the others had much experience with. He won and the others started to realize that you can't go in just knowing one form. Hence Mixed Martial Arts. Seems as though everyone jumped into the BJJ arena and they couple that other forms (Muay Thai, boxing, grappling) that's why the fights are the way they are. Like it or not Ultimate Fighter has done alot to move MMA in more of a spotlight than it was as just PPV events. At least it's not scripted!

Oh yeah the big announcement tonight for you guys that like the old style stuff:
Hughes (my man) v. Royce Gracie winner of UFC 1, 2 and 4

The guy I would love to see a comeback into the octagon is Frank Shamrock. Talk about explosive! He was the total package, outstanding grappler and a pretty good striker. The guy was so quick on his feet he seemed to float around his opponents. Too bad he retired, his fights were always exciting to watch.

I miss ken Shamrock, Paul Varlens, Tank abbot and the old vets like that. Seemed more down and dirty fighting, but I still enjoy the new stuff. I'm a fan of that type of poop, boxing and wrestling (Yes Wrestling) so its all good.

I haven't watched the UFC's in awhile, but I'll never forget watching Dan Severyn nearly crack this Russian guys skull with repeated knees to the head..
Whenever I watch that poop, I find myself tensing up to the point where I'm sore after watching a fight... lol

I'm just starting to get into it so I don't know a whole heck of a lot of names. I remember watching one fight a long time ago and I thought it was so brutal that I haven't watched. But now, it is a bit more uneventful. I watched the Silvia/Silva fight last night and I almost couldn't stay awake for all of it...

UNEVENTFUL?????
What fight were you guys watching???
the sivla/silvia fight was awsome.....basically all the good fighters have the 1 punch knockout system or go to the floor....I like the newer Mui Thai guys myself.....give a good flying knee to the head (like one of last nights fights) and you can get some serious damage done....I can't use my left leg for poop anymore and most what I know is all legwork......god don't let me stomp on you if your under me.....what you might not realize during the "boring" parts is that is the hardest part of the fight.....this where you are using your head and ANY psychic ability you have (LOL) to set em up......watch their eyes and lower body simultaneously, see if you can spot each of the fighters setups.....that's where being in the ring gets good.....I'd rather see 3 mins of slapping or whatever then 1 second of bringin the hammer and a KO.....to me that's where the better fighter comes out...he used his head and planned his strike w/ more precision......

what was the outcome...no cable at my place.

BTW...I just saw Ken Shamrock fighting recently too.....I heard he came back....and last night Royce Gracie was announcing he's going to fight matt hughes..

Isn't Ken supposed to be fighting Tito Ortiz soon? That will be a nice fight, there is some bad blood between those two.

It was announced at UFC 56 that Ortiz and Shamrock would be the coaches of TUF3 and they will fight at the end. Ortiz will be fighting Forrest Girffen, Shamrock and hearing another fight with Liddell but I would wait to see how he does in the first two. Many are saying Shamrock is just too old now, I don't know for sure. I think that fight will be in May at the end of TUF3 (TV season).

Royce and Hughes will fight in May, I heard nothing about it being a title shot though, that is (and I beleive) he is still holding the WW title. Matt is on top of his game right now and he only steamrolls into his next fight. He fights anyone they will put him against. Royce is legend but I think he is past his prime and really only has the BJJ. Matt's an ox with a lot of different styles. I may be a little biased though since I know Matt from college days and we have a couple mutual friends. I just hope he beats the hell out of BJ Penn now that he is back too, if and when he gets a shot.

BTW Plaid, Silvia is going to have to step it up if he wants to get that HW title back from Arlovski. AA is gonna make him look stupid if he tries to fight like that.

You gotta love the 5 second match between John Goulet and Duane "Bang" Ludwig, it happened so fast I thought Ludwig tripped him as he was shooting in but he caught him with a nice right hook and folded him up like a piece of cardboard!

Sorry if I sound like a novice, but the Silva/Silvia fight just kinda sat there. It was like a regular boxing match where they just size each other up for the first few rounds. And Silva looked like he pretty much packed it in with a minute left in the 3rd. He just looked like he gave up trying to get to the big guy.
What really heebed me out was the match between Bonnar and Irvin. I can't believe how far Irvin's shoulder stretched before he tapped out.

anyone ever see the "David Vs. Goliath" Ufc tape? I have that one and it has some of the best fights I've ever seen. If ya like UFC ya should pick it up. Some of the best knockouts I've seen

I agree with ya, I like the Militech guys but I don't care for Silvia. Last night's fight didn't help either. Arlovski is going to put him to sleep, AGAIN, when they square off. Silva did give up, I think he was more frustrated and saw he wasn't able to get anywhere with the guy, I mean really Silvia rely's on that 80" reach to keep guys back. I was suprised there weren't more kicks thrown, Silva is a Muay Thai fighter and he was pretty lax with throwing knees or kicks whatsoever. It is hard to go around and find someone 6'8" or thereabouts to train with though.

I too was suprised at how long Irvin went before he tapped, I mean Bonnar had that kimura sunk in deep, and Irvin is a big dude and big dude's usually don't stretch that much. Irvan definitely needs to work his ground game, the fight with Terry Martin that was televised earlier on a best of 2005 show indicated that until he caught him with that awesome flying knee.
