come down to...

traxxas revo (innovative, lil much $$$, and a tediously tuned engine)
tamiya tnx (nice truck, .18?, shocks stink i hear)
AE MGT (nice AE quality, lil heavy/big, can it race?)
HPI Savage (price, good support, heard needs help 4 race, hard 2 work on?)

those 4 i've come down to, b/c of various reasons and rules at 2 local tracks (dont want 1 of these prebuilt truggys).

background, very experienced w/ r/c offroad (been out of it 4 a while), can more than figure my way around tuning an engine (real car background). want to race, dont mind runnin around back n 4th on the big yard, but most time at track racing. dont wanna break the bank either. i have a budget and other life expenses 2 attend to. so i can't afford the big cheese, but dont wanna go so cheap that i have 2 put a good chunk of money into the car 2 keep/get it racing.

thx 4 the .02, thought i'd ask this in the other forum instead of multi-posts (prolly not allowed and somewhat annoyin i know) and b/c which ever forum i post it in, people will favor the truck of that forum and what each has (prolly that truck if their lookin there).

thx again.

this is an unbaised answer for you(i dont own any monster trucks)

from what i understand the savage is a VERY strong truck and also very reliable and from the few that i have seen are actually quite easy to work on and their parts are definatly not in short supply they have extra parts at almost any hobby shop. i would go with the savage I'm sure you will be happy with it but then again i haven't seen a revo yet so i can't speak for them.

the mgt is very raceable,I started off racing mine with stock tires and finished each race in the top 4 at the local track.since I put some bowties on it I've been almost unbeatable,as it stands right now I have pulled ahead enough in points that I'm going to be the track champ in MT this year.this is all the more sweeter of a victory considering I'm the only guy running an MGT there.
I hear good things about the TNX also, but around here parts aren't very available so it wasn't an option for me.the savage is tough but I've heard from many guys that I race with that it's a pain to work on and has a habit of having screws loosen up.the revo has some sweet suspension, but it also is a pain for working on.not to mention they went with the 2.5 engine, which at times can be a major pain to tune.
I'm sure that my opinion seems somewhat biased, but I haven't heard of anyone yet who's bought an MGT and regretted it.it's very easy to work on,the engine is very forgiving for tuning, and it's comparable to a savage as far as being tough.just my :2cents:

I have a savage and a maxx, but I don't race. One thing about the savage that it doesn't have compaired to the maxx is tunability in the suspension, at least not without aftermarket parts or upgrades. There's only one mounting spot on the arms and towers for shocks, camber is set with the arms since they don't have any adjustments. It also has a wider turning radius than the maxx, but I've read that you can shave off some plastic here and there to gain some back.

As far as durability, I'd have to say a Savage completely dominates. I'm running a few upgrades (shocks, steering, turnbuckles) on my savage vs a maxx with only the radio box being stock(no lie). The savage makes it through every weekend without needing work whereas the maxx always is need of something.

As for the MGT, it seems to share some of the maxx and the savage. By sharing the maxx, it runs shorter shocks with the same kind of adjustable pillowball suspension. By sharing some of the savage, it's designed to handle a 21 or larger engine. Everything is bigger and beefier.

Another thing with the MGT is that RPM also carries arms and probably other parts for it. The only time RPM makes anything for anything is when the original parts are weak or the tolerances are so close that they can't get enough of "their" plastic on it to help. You will notice that they do not make anything for the savage.

My spare parts bin for the savage consists of a spur gear and a couple glow plugs... the one for the maxx however is enough to build another maxx.

if your really intent on racing. id go with the MGT, its about as tough as a savage, but more tunable for racing. the new losi lst looks nice, but there are now a lot of reports of parts breaking too easily and losi is actually retooling the truck because of this problem.

the only thing a TNX needs to be a very dominant track racer is Proline powerstoke shocks...

Old post, but I've ran all 4, own the MGT & Savage.... MGT with RPM arms is alot faster (still ok with the stock), RELIABLE & easier then all the above!!! IMHO

go with the revo. it was made for the track. it handles super good, it is easy to work on, it is light compared to the other trucks, the engine isn't that hard to tune, the suspension setup out does any of the other trucks. the price might be a little more on the top, but it is race ready out of the box, and i dont think any of those other trucks are close to race ready/

I would go with the MGT as its suspension out of the bos is great for those bumpy areas and absorb a lot. Yes the fake Piggys are lame as hell but its a race truck for sure. Easy to work on . All of these trucks are great and are race potent but to each his own. I say the MGT but I also think the REVO is a damn strong contender. The savage suspension is not as tuneable but still strong. Never drove a TNX but seen them run. The rest I have had the pleasure of driving them.

My Order:

MGT
REVO
SAVAGE

TNX could be in any place since I don't know it.

ah, this post is a lil old. i've already been thru the wars w/the SUT RTR, now have it at Pro spec. couple people at the track were pushin the hot bodies. i think its just too far on the scale of a monster. w/those really wide arms and low slung setup. the GT version thats comin soon loox more proper. but sadly their prolly gonna dominate.

my storm pro (made outta parts from various parts acquisitions) will only come out for local track fun. i have more fun w/the monsters personally. however the increasin nature of truggies makes 1 almost wanna get a revo and run in the small block class since their all 'monsters'. anyways....

glad 2 hear every1 else is havin a good time w/their monsters. the weather is comin for most of us!

I have the savage and Monster GT my nephew has the revo . Out of the three
the MGT is the most well rounded . It is a racer that bashes real well . Out of
all three it is the easiest to work on . All it needs is a motor upgrade .
