Hey guys, I recently changed to a 34t metal spur gear and a 18t Clutch bell and first time out I didn't notice it shifting. Seemed like it was stuck in 2nd gear. So, I came to a hard stop and slammed the throttle and nothing! Engine rev'd, but the truck didn't move! So I took the tranny apart and found first gear was smooth as a babies butt, and so was the other gear that it runs on. I think it's called the idler gear. Anyways, I put another first gear and the wide ratio gear set in. This time I went out and noticed it shifting real early and would foat up into a high speed wheelie. Then I decided to change the shift point and make it shift a little later. Started the truck and after about 15 seconds of ripping back and forth across a field, again! First gear! Gone! Anyone Know why this is happening? Too tall on the gearing? bad Primary clutch? What do y'all think?

How tight do you have your slipper set? You want it just a bit loose so that if have any binding elsewhere in the drive train it won't wipe out the transmission. A suggestion for a replacement in the transmission is Robinson Racing gears. They're steel and take a beating. I don't think that the gearing is too bad.

The slipper didn't seem to be any tighter than I normally have it, but maybe I should try and loosen it a little. I am experimenting with the gearing a bit. I was running a 17cb, 36 sg combo on my picco 26 with dynamite 053 and it would RPM so quick, shift into 2nd still pull a wheelie in 2nd with no problem. So, I thought I would try to calm first gear down, and stretch it out a bit and get more top speed out of it at the same time;) However, it seems to be putting a little more stress on the stock gears. Unless there's something else wrong! I really wanted to avoid the metal gears to keep the drivetrain as light as possible. I may have to though! :\

Well, when I went BB in my revo, I had to go steel on the 2 speed top shaft as I kept shelling out 1st and 2nd. Ever since replaced the top shaft gears with RRP steel, I haven't had it open again.

You may have over-tightened the slipper or had bad topshaft bearings, but that's alot of power on those plastic gears. 18/34 might be a little beyond the 2-speed's adjustability.....that's pretty high.
