I just acquired a used traxxas nitro truck and I am not sure what model it is. I look at pics on google and can't decide which one it is...I think it might be a tmaxx 3.3. I would like to find out because it does need work and I would like to download the instruction manual since I am a newb at this. It has a picco .21 motor in it that needs rebuilt I am pretty sure atleast that is what the guy told me. Also it says maxx inside of the body, but I don't know how to tell if it is an e-maxx,t-maxx etc also I don't know if it is the 2.5 3.3 or whatever. Thanks in advance for your help I just want to know so i can start deciding the best way to get this thing to run

Got any larger photo's of it? Looks like a newer t-maxx due to the gray bits. Or an old max with newer parts on it. Not sure what the engine is, too small to tell, but it isn't a traxxas head. Reminds me of an old Omega/Picco engine I had.

That is a 2.5 Tmaxx. About 1 1/2 years old If that. I do know it had a 2.5 with the silver head.

Yep. Thats even newer than i thought. My neighbor has the same one except for the tranny. Prolly the 2.5r model. IMO I'm not for certain but pretty sure.

thank you all........one last question should I rebuild the motor or replace it it says .21 picco or something like that the thing wont start it cranks and sounds like it has compression, but I don't know what else to do...do they sell little compression testers for them like the ones you use for your car?

I'd agree with you on that one. Looks like the version just before the 3.3 maxx came out. Or one that may have had a 3.3 in it.

Not sure what engine is in it now though.

Really reminds me of this one:

One of the first drop in BB's for t-maxx's I believe.

EDIT:
Guess instead of scouring the internet trying to find a picco-maxx 21, I should have just waited for you to post info about it! Or I should have read your first post... DOH!

Is this your first nitro RC?

yeah this is my first nitro RC got it for a bunch of car parts I don't need want anymore pretty good deal IMO. Now just to decide the best route to get this thing started.

Did he give you the starter for it.

yeah I got the ez starter a glow plug igniter all the tools and some other odds and ends like a losi heat gun. The ez start lights up, but the motor doesn't start. Like I said it cranks ok and sounds like it has compression I just want to make sure that I know what I am doing a little more before trying anything else I don't want to make the motor any worse. I think I will take it to a LHS and see what they reccomend

From looking at the pics, I'd say that is a pretty new 2.5 T-maxx.
It has the reverse servo, the blue boots on the larger size driveshafts, the newer style steering knuckles, the gray plastic bits, and the fuel line unplugged....lol
Ditch the glow plug wire and get a glow plug ignitor. It allows the Ez-start to crank the engine better, and longer. Find the factory needle settings for the engine, make sure the fuel is getting to the carb, and take it from there.
Good luck!

thanks for the identification guys. I was able to get the .PDF of the instructions which I read entirely. When I first got the truck I was kinda scared at looking at all of those parts. After reading everything I think 95% of my questions were answered.

you're funny:D

Could be the glow plug is bad. Do both of the lights come on on the ez start???

Might help to conect the fuel line as well!! =]

Yeah both light up fine...The fuel lines were plugged in when I tried to start it and I did prime it too. I'm pretty sure the motor is bad so instead of just putting a new motor in I am going to take it apart and clean everything good and see what need replaced and upgrade those components while I am at it. When I first got the thing I was excited and thought great I'll get this running on the weekend, but instead I have decided I might as well give the thing a good overhaul before I put money into the engine. Now I am targeting July to get it running so I have time to invest in quality components while it is apart.

if you decide to get a new engine send that 1 my way please :D i could do with 1 for my other project (not my t-maxx) :D
