:smoke: Today I bought Tamiya RC for My son's 9 years old birthday. He looks happy, but may be he wanted to have Nintendo game softs more than it. In Japan, RC is not so populer for kids anymore. (Mostly loved by middle age people) But I wanted him to play outside than TV games. And I also wanted him to understand my hobby. How does American fathers think about this?

It is a great idea to involve your son in your hobby. Any activity that gets kids outside is a good one. The fact that it is something you can do together is a plus.

Do you play video games with your son? You could always play nintendo games together inside when it rains, and RC outside when the weather is nice! I dont know, but I think if you show him interest in his games, he may want to go outside and bash with you and learn to love the hobby as you do, I think equal time for the interests you share together may just work for you, but you can never tell with kids that age, their interests change so fast, I am sure once he has that radio in his hands, he will feel more comfortable and start to really like the car you bought him,you just have to let him get that controller in his hands and I am sure he will light up and enjoy his gift! an RC car is alot like a video game, you control the action, mabye when he see's the similarity he will become addicted like the rest of us! Good luck!

I'd say you did good, they never know if they like it until they've tried new things. You have to constantly involve them in new area's then let them decide if they like it.
As time goes on it will become harder and harder to find things you both are excited about. Thats why I love this hobby so much, my son and I are both nuts about it.

Man, if my dad had the $ and the interest when I was a kid, we would have been all over it. As it was, he didn't and doesn't have the $ to spend on frivilous things. Whenever I take a trip to my parents, I take the trucks with. He loves looking at them and is constantly telling me what he could do to them with a welder. He was a specialtly welder for 25 years for P&H. They made earthmovers, cranes, dump trucks... It was his job to fix what other people messed up. Or what their cad machine screwed up with the laser cutter.

Anyway, I would have had a ball as a kid if dad had got into this hobby... I'd probably also have the only RC on the planet that wouldn't break... That reminds me, I need a new roll bar. Have to take a trip!

i think a kids going to do what he wants to do you really can't make him like rc's, i've noticed that the generation of kids now are into video games and thats what they chat about at school they read the mags. and love to play the games,i think if you make it fun enough with him playing rc's he may like it..i know i loved it as a kid, my friend gives his son a tmaxx to play with and yells at him all day long to be careful, watch what your doing, you need to let that kid just go for it!!! my dad is a alcoholic so i never had this kind of an oppertunity as a kid..good luck on your venture your children is number one..oh yeah if you wanna get him out of the house, put his video game out side....lol

I noticed alot of kids that could not care about RC cars, my girlfriends 11 year old son could not care less about them, he is more interested in going to the mall and getting the latest basketball jersey or latest South Poll shirt. He never wants to run them with me. like HB said you can't make a kid do what he does not want to do.

I totally agree with the kid is number 1 (even though I'm 14)
My dad is my best friend and pretty much whatever he's doing i uaslly get really interested it helps though that its really cool things like r/c,hot rods, paintball, fourwheeling, etc etc pretty much when i was younger 8-11 ish i really had no interest in r/c cars even though my dad had an old electric monster truck i really had no interest untill on day for my b-day my dad brought me to radioshack and let me pick out an r/c car from then i loved it and wanted to do nothing but that. i now run nitro r/cs with him and we both love it. so pretty much just let your kid pick out what he wants to do and you can just kinda come in with him and kinda get interested in it I'm sure me and my dad will always have a very strong bond. and if he gets interested in something your interested in...seize the opportunity! :radio:
