Hey all i was looknig forward to running my hyper and i ran into slight problem. I get all my stuff out to the driveway will the tank prime it and give the thing a few pulls. Then some how I think the pull start skips and doesn't get a grip. It pulls freely and only spins the piston a couple times. What do you think i should do?

that is the same thing that just happened to me yesterday with my savage!! holy s***
it ended up in the cord snapping. take it out and inspect it and also clean off your output shaft (the thing were the one-way bearing goes) it might have oil or grease on it.

Yep. Your one way bearing is alittle "wet". Take it off and clean it out.

that happens w/ my hyper engine. my savage 25 has no primer so you hold the exaust to help pump gas. after i do that it doesn't seem to slide. that might help u if u got a savage or something with a similar gas tank set up. hope i was of help, thats the only prob i had w/ my hyper and the solution.

peace, mark

you dont have to take your backplate off. just your pullstart... wipe off the shaft coming out of the motor with some kind of solvent.. I usually just spray mine with brake kleen and then wipe it with a clean rag... then also spray out the one way bearing... you will see the brown oily crap come out of it when you first start spraying it. it doesn't hurt to spray out your pullstart too while you've got it apart. then just put it all back together and you'll be good to go!

Well acctualy I'm still running it in the hyper 7. I put my finter over the exaust ever time. Oh well not a big deal. When i put the engine back in were should i put it? Is there a proper way to get the mesh right or do i just guess?

Yes, cut a thin strip of printer/copier paper and insert it between the spur and clutch bell pinion and then tighten the engine mounting screws such that the paper is firmly gripped by the two gears. You should be able to withdraw the paper strip without it snagging or binding.

Well i got it apart put it back to gether it looked good worked for a while the slipped again. All i did was wipe the outside of the bearing i didnt take it off all the way. So now I went to do it again andi pulled it all the ay apart this time. Now its in 4 different peices. I'm waiting for my dad to get home now to put the silver wire back on the way its suppose to be. Is there a plate that i jsut just bolt on inplace of the pullstart? I dont really need it that much because i got a starterbox.

next time, try this trick. slowly pull out the pullstart cord. once its maxed out, spray some nitro cleaner in the cord hole. i've done this about 5-6 times on my savage and hyper. clears out the oily crap, and no need to remove anything. just know, that eventually u will need to remove the PS and clean it the right way. this is just a quick fix.

Well its in 3 different peices now and i can't get it back together. How are you suppose to get the silver spring back on the hook inside the pull start casing and the clip on the outside of the output shaft? PLease help me out. Can i bolt the pullstart casing back on the the engine without the spring and not use it or do i need a special plate.

Not too sure wiping the one way bearing will do anything. Since ofna puts the one way bearing on the inside of the engine, so it always stays lubricated. The pull starts are always going to break. Ofna does make a roto start for $15.95, there is also another shaft shart like that call Tiger Drive and that is about $25 bucks.

One-way bearings can get contaminated with after-run oil, or castor oil if the engine is flooded. Taking the bearing out and soaking it in denatured alcohol, IPA or whatever and then drying it out usually works. If it slips straight away under normal fuelling conditions then it is probably worn out.

If you ditch the pull-start and opt for a roto-start then you will still need the one-way bearing and input shaft.
