Hyper 7 arrived today :)

Well, my first rc nitro (Hyper 7 PBS RTR) finally showed up today, but,
It isn't what it was represented as in a couple of ways.

It was supposed to come with a non-pull start Hyper 21 8-port engine and a starter box(which I've read not much good about and didn't realize the engine was non-PS until after I ordered it) .

Well, it doesn't have the hyper 21, it has a Hobao Mach 28 6-port pull start engine and no starter box.

The box it came in clearly states (Hyper 21 8-port) and the paperwork with the kit shows the breakdown for the hyper 21.

Anyone else had this happen?
And, is anyone familiar with this engine? Performance, quality, endurance, tuning? I can find very little info on it.

Thanks for any info.

This is new or used? where did you get it from if new?

If it is new, and not an auction, I would send it back and demand a model with a starter box. If it was an auction contact the seller, and see if they will correct it. If not, leave the worst possible feedback you can come up with.

Pull starts can make your hair fall out at a young age, cause a dark and violent hatred of your buggy, and usually result in an early retirement from the hobby. Especially if you don't know how to tune an engine and you are always flooding it.

EDIT: You posted before I finished typing my reply. Ace should be able to help you out, I haven't had any problems with them in the past.

I don't mind the pull start part, but I did email them about the starter box.
I was more curious about the Mach 28 engine than anything.

Thanks

Jeep

You should call them instead of e-mailing them. Its alot easier for someone to say no by e-mail, than by phone in my experience.

"Pull starts can make your hair fall out at a young age"

By the way kx, alot of my hair has already fallen out, but is was mostly due to my ex-girl friends, and I'm 40.
I get your point though :hehe:

I'm 43, and I got lots of hair, just not where it supposed to be.

Jeep, I checked your link. You are right, they sent you a diffreent product. I have dealt with Ace before. OK to deal with. I would insist on sending you what you ordered based upon the pics and ad info, or ask for a full refund includioing any shipping costs you incur.

The Hyper .21 8 port is not a bad motor. I do not know a thing about the Hobao .28, though.

BTW, that starter box really is not worth it for that size of engine. It will be more of a PITA than if you just got a better box or a PS.

Jeep call them and talk to kevin...Tell him whats up and he will work with you for sure..

I have ran in to things with them In the past and they always do the right thing..
Weather your right and there wrong Or the other way around:)

Thanks for the info Revo, Zandor,
but,,I waited a very anticipating 12 days for this to arrive, and I'm keeping it short of any major flaws, which I don't see any, but I do see many things to correct(wire routing, fuel line routing, tie-rod end outer screw heads rubbing upper A-Arms when trying to turn and under no-weight load) on my tear down and reassembly venture I'll correct these things.
Since it did come with a pull start and the starter box it was supposed to come with seems to be lacking (so I've read in many places), I'm not that concerned on those issues.

I did find this just now though:

http://www.ofna.com/hyperpbs28.html

I think I got this car in a Hyper 7 PBS with hyper 21 eng box.

They tend to do that. Is there a sticker or something on the box? That is how my PCR edition came. It was in a pbs box with a Paul COleman racing sticer on the box.

vbgagnon,
I'll be damned.....there is a sticker on the bottom of the box, it says "HYPER 7 PBS RTR 28MACH PSTART"

Did you order a PCR? or PBS? was it exactly what you ordered?

Thanks

Jeep

ps, It also says $699.95

I got this for $409.00,
should I keep my mouth shut on this? lol

I also noticed it has a high polish aluminum exhaust system instead of the black that I see on the pbs rtr kits

I bout it at a shop, I wanted the pcr and they said they didn't have any. So I said let me see the box, and it had that sticker. So I left with it that day. That sounds about right, the 699 is msrp.

Jeep the first thing you should do Is ditch the stearing servo. Replace it with a hitec 645 mg
Next Replace the pipe. Go with a Ofna 063..for a .28 I found that that pipe works the best.Besides that On a buggy that coupler that is used is junk.
zit will come apart on you.
So a good one piece will make your buggy run better but will also make it less of a headache when out bashing if it comes apart

Thanks Zandor,
I planned on a rechargeable hump pack and charger(currently ordered from tower), and the hitech 645 steering servo as per advice from Revo and yourself I believe, and I see exactly why now.
I purchased some regular duracell AA's this evening just to check the radio and servos, and the steering servo is so weak and slow, it is pathetic.
The hitech 645 will be ordered immediately :)

Any info at all on the MACH 28 6 port engine? I had read everything I could find on the hyper 21 8 port, now all I learned is useless, lmao, well not useless, but not totally applicable :)

Thanks Alot

This is weird, coz my PBS RTR kit cam with a Hyper .21 with a pullstart and a starter box. The engine looks to me like the one in the catalog that is NOT an 8 port. I don't know what motor it is to be honest. All I know is that the stock starter box is completely worthless, and I have broken two pullstarts, so I gave up on those too. My steering has the same problem as your does when not under load, tell me when you fix it how ya did it. You might want to not only replace the steering servo with a 645MG, but the t/b servo as well, as the stock one doesn't have enough balls to operate the brakes.
I hope you enjoy your new buggy!!

It seems we are both the recipients of a product of mass change, mass production, and mass mis-representation,,lol

On the throttle/brake servo, mine seems to work very well, short of an adjustment to make the servo rod engage the throttle immediately, a lil much travel on mine before throttle engagement, but the brakes are amazing,,I rolled mine fairly fast (I won't even start engine break-in until Saturday) and hit the brakes,,it stopped immediately( after a lil trimming). but I do plan on the hitech servo for T/B as well.

As far as the binding on the A-Arms from the tie-rod screw,,I studied that alot tonight, the A-Arm looks plenty strong on the back brace, so, i'll probably just shave the screw end so that it is flush with the nut and mill enough clearance on the bottom side of the A-arm so that through travel it will not bind while the front suspension is unloaded.

Right on, seems like a good fix to me. Or you could replace the screw with another one with a shorter length.. I had to remove the spacer between the the front and rear brake linkages where they meet the servo horn, when I switched to a Hitec servo, no problems since. Maybe my brakes are out of adjustment, but with the new servo it stops on a dime. I seriously recommend asking for advice on the break-in, these engines are a serious pain in the rear, and with only a pullstart, and that cheesy starterbox you may get frustrated soon. I had to heat my engine up to 180F+ just to get the pullstart to move!!
