damn these rims really suck i stripped out 3 of them already and the nut were new nylon locking that were tight as hell, does anyone know what chemical i can use to remove glued tires off plastic rims, acetone, thinner anything?

No chemical, just boil them for about 15 minutes. Works like a charm.

Once you boil, spray cool water on them in the sink, then gently press the bead. They should come right off, nice and clean.

Boiling has a tendency to remove chrome though.

Forget boiling. What you want to do is heat up your oven to 450 and then shut it off. With your wheels/tires on a cookie sheet place them on the rack and let them stay in there while the oven cools off. When it does cool off the glue will be crystalized and you can just pop the tires off the wheels. I would suggest that you ditch the stock hpi wheel hexes for something that fills the wheel more completely. I'm using gpm hexes and they work much better than the improved hpi hexes and I haven't rounded out a wheel yet with them installed. I trashed multiple wheels with the stock hexes so I learned the hard way.

Hmmm....everybody keeps complaining about the savage diffs and wheel hexes, I've never had a problem with my wheels, I switched them out for prolines for looks but they are still fine. It took me 2 gallons to blow a diff, and it was only one gear...mabey I'm lucky or something.

Anyway, sorry for being off topic. I'm about to attempt baking my wheels (for a buggy, same procedure though). I hope it doesn't melt to the sheet, that would suck major ass.

I have used acetone or nail polish remover w/ pretty good results. You just have to watch it b/c it can also flake off or haze the chrome. It all depends on how well the company put the chrome plating on. You just have to make sure you don't get it on the chrome.

You can take a Q-tip and dip it in acetone, & then rub it around the wheel where it touches the rim. Let it sit there for about a minute to break up the glue. Then simply push the wheel off the rim.

Or if you really don't care about the chrome plating. Simply fill up a bowl about 1 inch deep of acetone & let the wheel/rim marinate for about a minute. Then you should be able to pry it off really easy.

I haven't done it on the HPI wheels, but the Imex wheels hold up the best. Team Orion also did fine, but RPM wheels flaked off quickly. Good Luck!

Later....:mex:

I'm going with 17 mm ofna rims but wanted to salvage some of the tires on the broken rims thanks for all the help I'm going to give it a try aloha....
