Did some more work this morning so we're about 90% complete at this point. Things left to do: Shoot window tint & light buckets. Put on wing, buckets, & wire LED setup. Program LED for turn signals, brakes. Install brake pads, muffler, and side mirrors. Apply decals.

I shoo-goo'd the body underside for paint protection. Ignore the fingerprints on the body, it's on the outside not the paint. My camera picks up too much detail :)

I also solved my speed issue. Checked voltage on the stick pack I was using and turns out a couple of cells had gone bad. I popped in a new freshly charged pack and HOLY CRAP this thing can move. Almost scary fast. I am now officially impressed with brushless and this Novak SLYDR setup.

man thats a nice set-up u got there

i want to get a drifter too very soon

Man, that sure is purdy. Your so going to have to bring that this summer when we meet up and go bash/race. I wanna see that in person!!

Thanks guys. I should have the rest of the parts I'm waiting on by Thursday, Friday at the latest. I've still got a bit of work to put into it but so far it's going well.

I made the mistake of letting a friend take it for a spin on Superbowl Sunday. Less than a minute is all it took for him to clip a curb and snap the right rear A-arm. Of course, the replacement arms are out of stock *everywhere* apparently. No other damage or body scratches but doesn't matter as I was planning to upgrade the arms & suspension and I've got the Sylvia body coming. The paint scheme on that will take me a while since it's fairly intricate (for my noobness) and I don't want to rush it.

that piant job is sick!!!

Yay,my parts came in!

The Common Sense RC 2S 5200MaH 25C LiPo hardpack is very, very nice. 2 Yokomo bodies (Trust D1 Spec S15 Silvia & a D1 Spec TOP SECRET S15), 2 DCraft LED light kits, and the light buckets for both bodies. Also a set of red Eagle Racing Brake Discs for maximum bling power. I'll keep the current body shown in previous pics for practice & touring duty with the regular on-road tires.

No, I don't need 3 bodies for this thing but I like having choice and I could use the paint practice. :hehe: A friend who works at a sign shop is setting me up with some custom vinyl masks on their plotter so once those get done things will get interesting.

Obviously, I'll be working on it again tonight. Hopefully will have more pics later this weekend.

The first body (previous pics in thread) I'll use for drift-bashing is done and am waiting for my custom vinyl masks to get in from the sign shop so I can start the "show" bodies. I added a few more pics of the green/black 350Z body now that it's complete to http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/amoebacowboy/?action=view&current=fronquartercomplete.jpg

I decided to rearrange & clean up my wiring, installed Dean's Ultra connectors, and got the ESC programmed to where I want it. I had to dremel out a little of the plastic pack holders to allow for connection to my 2S LiPo

Once I get the 2 show bodies done, I'll take pics once I can find my damned camera battery charger (grrr kids) and maybe a vid of my crappy drifting skills & consider this project completed :)

OMFG ! I wanted those rims! Good choice :D. VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO!

Thanks Coby and everyone for your kind words. Since this was my first "from the ground up" project it's nice to know I did an okay job so far.

I'm not very happy with the LED lights I got. They're nice and all but somewhat annoying as all they have are always-on or flashing modes. I went ahead and ordered the Tamiya TLU-01 light unit and TLU-02 control unit along with red & amber lights so I could set it up to have realistic light effects; working brake lights, turn signals, etc. to match receiver inputs.

So with my masks completed and the light kits on the way I started to get the "easy" part of the masking done for the final show body. Getting straight lines this thin and centered on a curved body isn't easy. The hard part is yet to come; masking the sides & connecting them up to the lines going out towards wheel wells.

The solid rectangle in the center isn't solid.. there's another mask layer there for another color layer for the hood graphic. :) Plus those circuit stubs (the circles) are outlined too and not solid. Wheee!

Side mask prior to cutout & application to body: http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/amoebacowboy/?action=view&current=sidemask.jpg

That should take a few hours to get aligned and sealed down correctly. Whee. Sorry for the crappy pic. I ran out of red mask sheets and white on white doesn't photograph well. Inverting the colors helped a bit but not by much..

My countersunk neodymium ring magnets for the hidden body mounts also arrived. These little bastards are *strong*. 3.2lbs pull force on the small, 5.8lbs pull force on the larger.

I've drilled pilot holes into the body posts to screw the 1/2" rings into the posts. I'll use shoo-goo (or fiberglass) to attach metal washers to the underside of the body to hold the lid on. The larger 3/4" ring magnets will be part of the body removal tool. They have a much stronger pulling force than the 1/2" rings so when pulling off the body there won't be much pull at all on the washers away from the body to avoid paint lifting. I just have to be careful to align the magnet poles correctly so they repulse from the post magnet poles. Playing with these magnets I'm absolutely certain that only a severe impact will knock the body off. I try to avoid severe impacts. They get costly in parts :)

If all goes well this weekend I hope to have everything but the LED light system completed by Sunday evening.

What did those magnets run you?

about $8 a pack. With shipping it was around $26 total. I picked them up from http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com, and they shipped pretty fast. Placed the order Monday, got them today with regular FedEx ground.

Just make sure if you pick some up to play with or whatever that you be very careful. Depending on the size & pull force, these things *will* hurt you. Check out http://www.magnetnerd.com/Neodymium Magnets/Dirks Accident.htm.

I almost bought this last week, at a local hobby shop! Looks Good! Electric is growing on me. I might pick up a electric to mess with. Indoor drifting (rc) is getting big at a local hobby shop, and until June, they dont have the correct vents/system for nitro... :(
