Hi we are new to this forum.
We are having a few issues with our HPI's
We purchased a new Savage XL this year ,broke it in to the book and it runs great, but the one way bearing is slipping now for the roto start. So I figured no problem I'll pull roto start off clean bearing in denatured alcohol and put it back together, that worked fine for alittle while now it acting up. Why did HPI put the one way bearing inside the crankcase on the 5.9,it gets all the oil from the nitro fuel in it. We run S&W 20 percent fuel in all of our trucks.
Our other HPI savage problem (aka wild child) we purchased used this yr. The truck has an OS .30 engine in it along with a 3 speed trans right now it is geared 19/52 ,it has HR slipper clutch assembly on it with what looks like a robinson racing metal spur gear. We keep taking the slipper clutch out on this beast. I searched on the forum here only to find out that this truck is geared too high and the spur gear is unmatched to the slipper assembly???

Any help would be appreciated.
Also we have a real nice home track here at our house and all basher are welcome just contact us.

Thank you,
Ed

I'm surprised 19/52 fits. You sure your using a 1M bell? (standard 1/8 scale tooth pitch)

I had to modify my chassis a bit to fit 16/49 in mine. 19/52 would force me to elongate my holes for the engine mount off the side of the plate!

You said "We keep taking the slipper clutch out on this beast.", does that mean you keep burning up the slipper pad? If so, tighten your slipper nut down more.

Hpi

They modified the motor mount plate the motor screws are almost on the outside of the chassis.
Yes we keep taking the slipper pads out,we have two in this unit, I didn't try tightening the spring all the way down but we did try tighten it up and back off 1/4 turn,I'm wondering if the lock nut is loosening up? The last time I put blue locktight on it.
Should I just go back to original gear ratio and plastic gear with dual pads?

ED

The dual pad setup was known for failure more so than the single.

To me, it sounds like with the engine and gearing combo, there's so much torque, that you pretty much have to lock the slipper nut down. I'd at least tighten it until the spring is just compressed all the way and run it a while to see if it holds.
