Sorry about that. Hadn't thought of a worn slipper pad.

With the taller gearing and larger engines, the HPI slipper requires frequent resurfacing or it glazes over, then slips so bad that it over heats and melts the spur.

Unless you run yours like I do which is pretty much locked down so it doesn't slip. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a slipper... and makes diffs/axles unhappy if you aren't really careful.

here check this out this might help your steering problems i have to put spaces in so you can copy and paste it

Cliff, your differentials should have some type of seal that goes between the ring gear and diff cup. If not, you can use sealant on it.

That mod was done before HPI came out with their own:

Now that is the proffered steering setup on a savage. The OFNA one wasn't adjustable. The HPI one is. I ran the OFNA one years ago as well and it was a vast improvement over stock. The HPI one is even better. Bolts right in without any fuss.

OK thanks i had to replace the front diff when i got the savage x and did not see any seal's other than the bearings them self's but i will look in to it more here in the next few day's thanks agian.

The only seals are inside the diff cup itself. The two shafts that go into the diff cup itself, these are the shafts that go to your wheels. One shaft through the ring gear and one shaft through the cup, those have o-rings on them inside the cup under the larger sun gears. There is also a seal around the perimeter of the cup itself where it makes contact with the larger ring gear.

The main diff case is not sealed. It's a good idea to run a bead of silicone around the diff case itself though to keep sand/debris out of there. Helps the gears last longer when they are coated in grease and the grease stays clean. Grease and sand just makes for good gear chewing over time.
