Well I had a couple of other threads but nobody seems to be interested in them. I just want to get the word out on the HPI RS4 type SS. I've got mine all tuned and made a few changes. I changed the shock springs to blue in the front and white in the back, put some 24 mm slicks on it. These changes made the car handle alot better. I have the shift screw at five turns from screwed all the way in and shifting at about 15 - 20 feet. I really like this car and recommend it to anybody looking to buy one. It puts my RS4 RTR to shame. I almost don't even like taking it out of the bag! But I am definately going to have to make some modifications to the RTR. I appreciate any feed back you have on either car to help me. I hope some of this may have helped you.

Getting any input on TCs here is not the easiest thing. I have an RS4 3 RTR, and I have posted several times with questions but to no avail. Almost everyone here is offroad so don't take it personal. I think there are only about four or five of us here with HPI RS4s. The SS was not out when I bought my RTR 3 I really wish I would have waited. Since I bought it I have replaced the transmission with the two speed, replace that crappy ass header with a t-maxx header, and I am getting ready to order the THS Racing pipe and header for it. I replaced the single needle carb with an OS 10e. It runs like a totally different car now. Right now I am working on set up, I have not been able to find any really good info on setting my RTR up for streets and parking lots. Got any suggestions?

Hey Nitro, I just found this one. At least it gives an idea of what adjustments to make. I know there are more sites but like a bonehead I left all my good links on my office computer....

Setup

Got an RS4 3 RTR. Working on the same mods as Nitro. Already have my header replaced and stepping into the 2-speed by spring. I like it. Just need to dig my ass through this snow to run it. Getting a bit of cabin fever here. You can only take it apart so many times before you go nuts!! hpiracer, where in NY ya from?

Good link, thanks Candyman.

I like my RS4 3 also, it really has not given me any problems at all. I still have the stock engine for now which is still running great, starts every time in three pulls or less. I plan on using it till I blow it up, then I want to put an OS in it or possibly a Fantom, I really like OS but there seems to be some really good deals on brand new Fantoms on ebay fairly often, so I might have to try one.

Right now I'm pretty much stock. I did do a few simple mods, though. I did replace that nasty flat header with my Traxxas round header. And I had an incident with my brakes. The disc got a bit warm running one day and melted to the calipers. So I performed the "pen spring" caliper mod and it works great. The caliper doesn't drag anymore. Works so good I did it on my Maxx. I ballooned the shocks in yellow to go with the purple chassis. But I think I'm going to make shock socks for it soon. Right now I've been a bit preoccupied painting up bodies. I guess it's the one thing you can do in the winter..

Check out this pipe I found by RG Logics, it looks exactly like the THS but it's $10 less, they also have their turbo version for the same price as the THS, this one looks like it might have more bottom end.

NCNITRO, I found this web site it might help, maybe not check it out. www.nascart.com/sedan.htm. It has a brief summary of hpi rs4 setup and how to set up for the oval. Maybe it won't help at all? well it sounds like I need to chane my header on my rtr rs4 any suggestions. I am a bit new but wanting to learn fast what will this do for me? I put a new exhast manifoled on it, I thought the old on might be chocking it. But it seems to be worse. I dont know I also put a 16t clutch bell on?

Wow!! Looks like more RS4 owners are popping up!!! That's awesome. Nitro, I like the pipes. They do look like low-end pipes. I haven't looked at the stock pipe in a while to see how they compare. I gotta love the chrome, though.
BTW, any tip on where I can find a 10E carb real cheap? I don't want to buy a new one and I haven't really had much luck on E-bay...

I have a Type SS as well. It's great to hear from other Type SS owners. This is my first nitro rc. Basically, I run out on parking lots. So trying to get this car faster and faster is my main goal. I actually have the RD Logics regular pipe on my car. It compliments my O.S. hyper .15 and really helps the top end. Plus the pipe is quieter than the stock pipe. Neighbors get annoyed when I run my car.

BTW, does anybody know if a centax type clutch can work on a Type SS? :trout:

Dear GOD man a centax clutch is 130 bucks. Why would anyone drop that kind of money to run in a parking lot? X

Burms76, thanks for the link, I am always looking for good set up tips. Thanks again. Burms, what header did you replace the stock one with?

Candyman, let me check with a friend of mine, he may still have one to sell. You need the original 10e not the 10 er. The 10e has the threaded holes in the base of the carb, if you look at the stock HPI carb it is held on with two screws not a pinch nut. The 10er does not have these holes. You will not beleive it is the same engine if you change the carb. It was by far the best thing I had done to mine up to this point, well that and the header. I'll let you know if he still has it. You might also try picking up an OS engine that needs a rebuild and just take the carb of it, I see them every so often pretty cheap. I will keep my eye out for you.

I was thinking of running out at a track here at KZ speedway in Sunland, I thought a Centax would be great to mess around with. As for it being $130.00, I think I've seen some around here for about $70.00-$60.00 range.

Hey guys, I picked up my RS4 ss a couple weeks ago. My first gas powered kit. I like it, only probs I've had is my set screws on the tranny came loose so my drive shafts werent spinning, and I'm noticeing my tranny shifting. Had to order a part for my tranny cause one of the set screws wont go in cause the hole got torn up from it. but I will be running it again this weekend and hopefully it wont give me no probs. Also have the red pinion gears coming in as well as a 39t spur adapter type. have a light weight flywheel but can't get it to idle low enough so the clutch doesn't engage and not cut off. so put the stock one back on till I can get the racing clutch. I will be switching motors to a trinity picco .12 motor. I'm pretty sure they make it with the correct shaft that our cars need. it puts out 1.5HP at 42000 RPMS. Will have pix of my car up soon!!

Had a few typos, wasn't noticeing my tranny shifting at all is what I meant and the part with the black spring in it, well that hole is all screwed up so had to order that part. And I should have that motor in a couple months, it should be running pretty fast after that!!
