Hey, I'm fixing a friends car and i noticed that the one gear closest to the rear spins freely back and forth without spinning the other gear or wheels.. somethings wrong right? I'm saying this cause on mine both gears spin at the same time and are like locked together. any suggestions?

Actually, if I remember right, one gear should turn freely. The 2nd speed gear is on a clutch that doesn't engage until the drivetrain reaches a high enough rpm. Until then it should freewheel. That's what allows 1st gear to do the work off the line.

All three of mine opperate properly and when I spin one gear both gears spin? Check the set screw on the shaft for the clutch assembly of your freinds. Sounds like it may have backed out. Its the screw right next to your shift point screw, there is a flat spot on the shaft where that set screw should be locked down.

so whos right? is it suppose to spin together or seperately?
