I'm looking for an electric to take to the beach. I like to keep my stuff clean. Are the Traxxas vehicles that are waterproof, water proof enough that i could not remove electronics and rinse the whole vehicle without worrying about it? I'm not new to RC just new to the waterproof era...

the summit floats..

According to Traxxas' own website, the electronics are water resistant, not waterproof so don't submerge them in water.

there waterproof to a point, putting it in the water that deep should be ok. But if you pushed truck further down the pressure of the water would easily go in,Just like watches that say waterproof to 100m and others say waterproof to 1000m. you can wear both watches in the swimming pool but the further you take it down the more pressure is put onto it by the weight of the water.
They say water resistant because they don't want you to do the swimming thing.
some break going through puddles, some can drive below the water level.Even though it's the exact same model. it's normally measured as an IP rating in uk. the higher the number the more water resistant it is.
Or using a hose pipe to wash your car down a hose on little pressure should be fine a high pressure hose will damage it.

This is something I was wondering about to. But more of is there hard to drown true waterproof electronics out there that I could make a purpose built snow, mud, beach, rain vehicle without breaking the bank for.

Yes. Them calling it "resistant" is basically just a safeguard for themselves. Calling it waterproof would essentially be guaranteeing durability, not something any MFR is going to do in this hobby.

IMO, they are about as waterproof as you can get though. I've had my Summit caked with snow and let to thaw without any further maintenance with no issues.

I went ahead and got the 1/16th Summit VXL as a beach rig. I just wanted something I could clean without tearing apart. Good to know i could dunk it to clean it as well. Its already beach ready :)

Nice. Never liked the summits before I started thinking about a sloppy truck. Guess thats the point of em huh? The summit swimming up there looks like its pretty happy in water. Now I'm thinking maybe a summit with some foam floats attached to the frame and some paddles to make a all terrain water borne fun toy.

I dont have any desire to run it into the water, i like the idea of being able to clean it without taking off the electronics. Its damn fast on both the twin 7.2's and the single lipo

My electrics hold up to the snow also and loves a good hosing down after a mud bash. The worst thing about running at the beach is salt water corrodes metal and sand eats away plastic and metal gears, or anything else that moves and gets sand into it. So you will still need to strip it down clean and oil.
Looks good but i wouldn't use my own truck to do it.

everything on it is covered up, looks near impossible to get sand in any gears. It has very few metal parts so tearing it down isnt really necessary. I bought it specifically for the purpose of taking it to the beach, i have two other vehicles so if it goes down for parts i can still have fun.

The diff and wheel bearings will not have any lube left in them after running in water a little while, but it looks fun!

I think it'll hold up to fresh water but sand is so small and sticks to lube it'll be like rubbing sand paper over the metal gears in diffs, bearings, inside motor if theres an air gap, even on shock shafts destroying the seals. for me it's not worth the risk. Unless i have more than 1 rc then i'll do it.

took it to the beach sunday. The body actually kept most of the sand out of the middle of the chassis. the rear suspension arms were of course covered in sand but i walked over to the spout they have out there to rinse the sand off of you and rinsed it down, brought it home clean. no issues.

As i said i only wanted the "waterproof" option to be able to clean it easy, not to run it in the water. I know its only the first outing with it but ill keep the post updated and let you know it stands up to the sand.

I ran it on single nimh and the one lipo i have. the lipo overheats the motor with no traction though but hobby town actually warned me about that.
