How to Paint Cammo?

Hey all...

Been rattle canning my lids (and those of coworkers). I've painted about 20-25 of them so far. Mostly single color, a few two tone or stripe deals. Nothing too radical...

I just got the HPI '56 F-100 and '72 Bronco lids for my Savy...

The Bronco is going to be a a red over silver racer, but the F-100 my wife wants me to go "hillbilly" with and shoot it in cammo. :shrug:

So, anyone shot any cammo? How do you tackle it? I've got a cheapo airbrush with a can of propellant (haven't even used it yet) so I could try that, but I'm thinking I'd do just as good with cans.

i would think mask the whole thing and then cut out different areas and spray.. then cut out more and spray again.. then take rest off and spray again.. thats what i would do.. i want a proline urban hummvee painted camo

I did this one a long time ago, with a wal-mart testors air brush and a can of air. I masked the entire thing one shape at a time using parma vinyl masking, marked a letter on the outside of the body with a sharpie for each shape as to what color it was going to be sprayed, then started painting from dark to light. I let each color dry at least 24 hours before removing the masking for the next color. The total time it took me to do this body was about 20 hours. I had done this for one of our early members, I really hated shipping it off because it looked so good when it was done.

Thanks for the tips. I've got to go by the LHS for some goodies for my new Savy, I'll pick up some of that vinyl mask and check out some of the colors they got.

I think she wants the more traditional beach or forrest cammo styles, but maybe she'll want the "mall" cammo... :jk:

if it's supposed to look natural you can't mask it...my buddy did it...took 3 times to get it right.....use an airbrush w/ a small tip and just lay down the colors in free formed blotches darkest to lightest....the problem is getting the colors right....anyone know of a good supplier for the forrest cammo colors.......I want to try a redneck hunting machine for a Escalade body....make it look like an SUV at least...

DUde I got relatives in central florida that are probably more redneck than any southern boy I ever met.....trust me on that...my uncle raises hogs and cross breeds em w/ boar....another uncle was some airboat race campion of crystal river and breeds bit pulls...if that eint redneck enuff I dunno what is....not branchin yor family tree is about the only thing that could possibly be more redneck than that....
