My pal has a Rex X nitro car with a 25 engine.. its reaching temps of 440 F
He wants to know is this normal??

i have a hyper 21 and it only gets to 180 F

we are taking the temp with an IR thermometer, pointing it at the glow plug

any ideas??? His car seems to be running okay

No, 440F is beyond hot for all nitro engines. Anything over 300F is bad for a nitro engine. The rig may seem like it's running ok but damage will happen to that engine before long. It's not getting enough fuel and too much air (which makes them seem like they are running like champs). I'm not familiar with that particular rig or engine, but those temps are dangerous.

He'll need to turn the HSN to provide more fuel to the engine....probably at least a 1/4 turn, if not more. I'd start with a 1/2 turn and go from there. If the temps continue to climb over 300, no matter what is adjusted he may have an air-leak, but try tuning it first. I'd even try to find out what the factory needle settings are and set to them (they are normally on the rich side), then you should be in much better temp zone and can lean out the engine from there.

haha thanks guys!!!

He wouldnt have it from me!! he just kept saying its a bigger engine!! :D

i think everyone missed something here!!!! Forget about the t-maxx and look at the hyper 21! if you only reach 180 degree then your running way to rich. Now if you know what your doing then this is a good thing, (save your engine, protect it). But you have a lot of untapped potential in that engine. It needs to be around 220 degrees. I bet that engine can go way faster than what you have seen it go.
