how hot 3.3 engine tune

Read the tuning stickies at the top of this thread. Temp is only one indicator of a tune and should not be used by itself to determine a "good" tune versus a "bad" one.

With that said when I used to check my temps I was in the 260 range with a pretty solid tune. I was using 30% nitro with a medium plug so you may see slightly higher temps if you are running 20%.

Agree with Grey here, never tune to temperature your sure to chase your tail doing so and it won't perform like it should.

PS: The Tmaxx with 3.3 i just sold, ran solid at 245 with a good smoke trail but they are going to vary..

i only use temperature as a guide line but aslong as i have good smoke u should be ok, my xtm 247 with a good tune hits over 270f and averages 290 but has good smoke and is tuned perfectly ( I'm on 20% nitro )

thanks guys. i know not to tune by temp. i just wanted to make sure that my temps were in the ballpark. its just been awhile since i have run my nitros.

8.0's love running that hot.. I have a couple engines with great tunes that run GREAT at 270..

There's nothing wrong with 270° or 280°, but it better be hot out and you better working the engine really hard.
One thing to consider is getting some better fuel with less oil content. By dropping just 2% of the oil content you'll notice a drop in temp with an increase in performance.

86 degrees in Tennessee one of mine ran around 250 tops, another at around 260, and thats after several WO runs with both on similar tunes. Normal running was slightly lower for both. They are all indeed different.

I agree that 270ish should be about the limit!

Mine in my revo runs 230F-260F depending on ambient (60F-80F). I run in relatively short grass a lot with 25% nitro. Pulls wheelies off the line pretty easily with my lower gearing but will run all day within a 15 degree range.
