Nobody can say you don't know how to have fun. I would set it up for marine use and keep a lot of bearings in stock!l:p:

Great vid Paul, looks like fun for sure. We've been basing at the local soccer fields for the same reason, nice BIG bank along the whole thing that makes for a nice jump. Nice flying too, I never got up the guts to flip one.

There is a much better jump down at the end of the football pitch, but didn't seem we could keep more than 1 or 2 cars running, so everyone just stayed at what was the "pits" and destroyed grass there :)

Flipping a heli... best advice is do stall turns and each time you get confortable pull up a little further until you are beyond vertical. Nothing changes in the maneuver, even beyond vertical you just kick the tail round and pull out. Then go a little further and finally just don't let go of back as you go up the stall turn. Remember to pull in some negative (for the first one, smoothly put a load in so you gain height instead of lose it). Then just pull on out :) One loop.

Once you get comfortable with those and the negative pitch pulse, you can do them stationary.

Hey thanks for the advice Paul. But currently, I don't own any CP helis anymore, they were just too time consuming with everything I had going on. I am planning on picking up one of the little MCPs though, so once I get some stick time, I'll give it a shot.

What heli are you flying in the vid? T Rex, HK, E Sky?

Hobby King 450GT + a few upgrades, some pimpage, some post crash Align replacements.

I know what you mean about the time you spend. Building, setting up, then for no reason it will all go wrong somewhere and you'll spend ages stripping, rebuilding and re-setting up bits and testing again and again... then you'll crash it and even a tiny crash and it's a good evening or two on the bench rebuilding and resetting up.

When... and it is when... they are working they are fairly maintenance free. A little oil on the gears and belt, a spray of GT85 here and there and it's grand.

Aha, it's a good looking bird that's for sure.

Yep, that's exactly it. I've literally rounded up all my stuff, loaded up the car and drove all the way to the field, only to crash on the first pack three minutes in. As you said, it's a good two evenings to fix and realign everything, level the swash plate, etc. One of these days, I'll get back into them though, because they fascinate me so much. For now, my FP machines and Phoenix sim satisfy the urge when I get one.

But, I will say that even though my Blade 400 was supposedly RTF, that after going through and leveling and setting everything up the right way, it was much more stable, and smoother to fly. I could actually do the hands off the TX thing for a good 5-10 seconds after I got done.

I had a 450 that was like that. The first time I carried out the maneuver I described above, the loop from what-would-have-been a stall turn, I stupidly believed someone that told me you could do it without being in idle up or using negative. So it went badly. Started falling upside down, paniced, went for negative pitch, spun the motor down and at 45 degrees down I hit WOT full pitch in a vain attempt to save it. Went in under full power. God rest it's soul. I watched and listened to a 1/2 rotor blade spin like a buzz saw for 50ft across the field and ... then the walk of shame. :(

The heli in that video however, is a figgety thing, just doesn't like to sit still. Been through everything and I'm tempted to just swap the rotor head entirely. Already done the swash and set up about 3 times.

Everyone loves video and I promise to get back on topic again, but...

This is the heli that flew like glass.

The cutting out thing. Found this on my camera. Perfect example. No good reason to cut out :( Did it randomly all day.

I wasn't impressed with the Baja's that day. To be honest. Pretty much as unreliable as the Nitros and brushless and not at all quicker. They just made a louder noise which surprised me.
