Hey folks! I've been working on Restomods on a few hot wheels that I have acquired. No idea if anyone is interested in seeing the teardown/rebuild process, but figured I'd start a thread. I know I've seen some cool scale modeling, diarama's and such for hot wheels, so ya never know. I thought this could also be a good time to the Hot wheels collection thread as well.

Post in thread 'Post your HotWheels collections!' https://www.rctalk.com/forum/threads/post-your-hotwheels-collections.140670/post-1493385

My first HW restoration was my '55 Alive Nomad. I kept everything stock, just have it a fresh coat of paint. HW nomads are one of my top 5 cars.

The second is a 70s van that I'm currently finishing up to be a Guinevere van inspired car. The paint work has taken quite a bit of time. The wheels are in real rough shape and had to be replaced; this was the first time I've swapped HW wheels. Next, It'll get a clear coat, new windshield (hopefully), then get reassembled.

Next on the work bench is a Poison Pinto. I'm currently in process of stripping the old paint. This one will also need new wheels. And I picked up some original Poison Pinto decals for it.

Details, details, details... And I complained that my 1/24 scale RC was small 😆

Those are awesome 🤘🏼
I seen people making hot wheels into rc cars.
I'd need a large magnifying glass for that 😄. But I have seen those and they look cool!

I don't know if my hands could ever get such tiny and fine detail!!! Cool projects and they look GREAT!!! 😍
Where do you get the parts??? 🤔
Guinevere has been a journey with the detail😁. I found an eBay seller for the wheel/axles. He's got an endless combo of wheel types. I'm glad I bought extra axle pieces as I had the width wrong on the rear. So I built the real axle to fit the van.

My son wants to redo some of his hot wheels love the van!
Thanks! And that's awesome! It is fun. If you need more details on separating the chassis or anything, I'm happy to share :)

I realized just now that I posted my Restomods into the hot wheels collection thread 🤦‍♀️. Anyways here's where the Pinto, Mod Rod and Van currently sit.

Poison Pinto

This is flat cherry airbrush immediately after applying paint. I painted this over the black base coat.

Flat cherry today all dry. I'm thinking now the roof needs some kind of skill paint work, there's just too much good real estate to pass up adding a little more detail. It'll get these OG poison pinto decals on the sides.

Mod Rod

A nice shiny black. She'll be getting some gold accents to tie in the gold engine.

Guinevere van chassis. I wasn't happy with the front wheel placement as they were hitting the body. So I ground out my JBweld and filed with my Dremel in hopes to get the axle to sit a little lower. I'll re JBweld them in then hopefully I'll be ready to reassemble.

It looks VANtastic! 🤣
Nice job! I like the painted wheel openings! 😁
Swapping the windshield for the clear out of another van I had was the way to go :)
So much tedious painting, but worth it

Its funny how much time and effort can go into such a small piece! It looks like you've figured out how to even improve on original HW designs! COOL!!! 😎👍😁

It's all trial and error 😅
