I got my car running! That LRP has some power, even while I'm breaking it in and tuned real rich...I'm kinda afraid whats gonna happen when I tune it right.

I have a question, in the instructions it says 4 TANKS for break-in, but I'm reading on the forums I should put 1 Gallon through it, while I agree that 4 tanks doesn't seem like it should be enough, I don't think that it need 1 gallon
I think 2 quarts is more than enough. To me (and from what little i know) running a gallon through seems more suited for racing than bashing but what do I know right?

I just wanted to give an update on my mill
I'm surprised things are going so well.........Although I attribute a good potion of my good fortune to the RCNitroTalk forum members, they have given more info that has helped me set my rig up properly and all those juicy lil tibits that make owning a nitro rc much more enjoyable than going it alone!
Once again, thanks everyone for the help you have given :first_place:

For those who don't know the mill is an LRP Z .28 Spec 3

I'm about to race tune mine for the first time tomorrow...and I'll admit I'm a tad scared of it. lol Damn motor is rated at 3.95HP! (Which yes I know is probably a lie). That motor is no slouch. What pipe you running? I have a Dynamite something or other....got it for $20 with the header off the Truggy owner. lol

dynamite platinum

midrange

(i know nothing about pipes, i saw midrange and figured better for bashin"

The engine is ready to be race tuned when you can rotate the flywheel with the glow plug out and it feels smooth at top dead center.
My LRP took 1 3/4 gallons to completely loosen up.
Don't be hard on it until you get at 3/4 a gallon thru it.
The midrange pipe is probably a 053. It's an OK pipe but to get the most from the engine you need a JP-2. They really wake up with that pipe. I never ran the Losi HT pipe on it but I am sure it does really well, it's a great pipe.

With both of my LRP's, I heat cycled through about 5 tanks (tuning only to keep temps up), then ran it through tanks 6-7 without shutting down. Let it cool, then did tanks 8-10 and let it cool again. All the while, tuning to keep the temps around 225. By the time I got to tank 12 or so, I was leaning it a bit to get better performance out of it.

When people say "1 gallon break-in", they generally mean that it takes about a gallon for the engine to loosen up enough to really lay down the power and to tune more consistently. The first 10 tanks or so are the actual "break-in" period. From there to a gallon or so, you want to be relatively easy on it and keep your temps in check. Usually after a gallon, it's performing really well and you can run it hard with little worry.

poop...if the JP-2 wakes it up....which one makes it sleepy? ;-)

I guarantee a Vantage C.F. pipe will put it too sleep.:hehe: Those are the worst performing pipes I have ever tried. They choke the life out of any motor.
With the JP-2 the engine gets explosive from mid to top end, pretty violent actually. Mine was a bumpstart model so it turned more rpms than a pullstart model.
