Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum and always interested in new techniques from others. If you need help trying to do something on your body please feel free to post your question here. Here's some of my work in the past. Some of them I've played around with frosted glass paint to get that matte finish on the outside.

What is you technique to get a matte finish? Do you sand the outside of the body? What do you mean by "frosted glass" exactly?

Thanks guys! I haven't had the oppurtunity yet to work on a Monster body. I would love to though. Most of my work has been with the cars and I'm just getting into the buggy segment.

Sweet! How long have you been painting bodies ?

I've been painting on and off for about 6 years. I had to take a few years off because of college, work, marriage and home. Just finally getting settled down again to get back to my hobbies.

After some experimentation. The best way to get a matte finish is as follows. Spray color underneath the body like you normally would. Then trim and peel away areas on the top mask that you would like matte. Take some Rustoleum "Frosted Glass" and spray over the top of the body. Let it dry and then peel off the rest of the outer protective mask. This allows the body to be a little more durable during driving. Since all the color is on the inside, it won't scratch off if you crash.

561Design, if you don't mind me asking...

How are you masking the pinstripes between colors?

No, not a problem. Ask as many questions you want. I'll do my best to answer them. If the pattern has alot of straight edges in parallel then I'll use Pactra trim tape. That works well for doing the chrome edging in the buggy body.

But if the pattern has alot of curves, then I end up cutting the whole thing by hand. The most recent buggy body I just did is all liquid mask and cut by hand. I think I spent about 1 hour just cutting the pattern. It also took longer to spray because I had to layer alot of the pattern for the buggy body.

So that's what they use that stuff for. I had no idea, learn something new every day. I'm getting ready to two-tone a 50's model chevy pickup body for my t-maxx and I wanted to separate the two colors with a fine pinstripe but wasn't sure what I would use to get a good bleed-free mask.

I've also got another body for my RC18 that I plan to paint as well, both are on their way here from towerhobbies. :)

Thanks for the tips, I'm sure I will have more questions soon.

Sure no problem.

Make sure you wash the inside to get any contaminants out. But yeah, I'd use that Pactra tape for what you're looking for. Make sure to push it down good so it doesn't bleed. You could use the 3M blue or green tape to mask off larger areas of the body. Post pics up when you get it done.

Thanks for the tips by the way, I started my RC18T body last night and I must say I'm quite impressed with it so far. It's rather basic, but I'm a basic kinda guy. However, it looks awesome! I will probably have it done tonight and started on my 50s chevy this weekend. I will post pics as soon as each are complete.
