Having problems with my steering on savage 4.6 with hitec metal servo when tires are off the ground it will go full lock but when truck is on ground I need a good 15-25 feet to turn around and the tires barely turn... Help please
 
What are you using for receiver batteries? Alkaline? Lithium? Rechargable pack?

When I upgraded to a HiTec metal-gear servo I also got a HPI hump pack, and it really helps move that servo!

Was just using normal lithium batteries I'll try the hump pack hopefully it works out

I do have the HPI cam-type saver on mine too. Much better part than the plastic one on the servo itself...

What hitec servo is it? Metal geared doesn't mean "strong". Just means less likely to strip out.

For a MT, I wouldn't recommend a servo with any less than 150oz/inch torque. And more would be better.
 
Thanks guys I'll give everything a shot when I tear the truck apart I stripped my spur gear when my brake lever popped out and jammed in (don't know how that happened) btw is a 49 tooth spur and 18 tooth clutch bell a good combo? Don't care much for insane speed just want to jump and have torque
 
Then depending on your engine, you could drop down a tooth or two on the bell to get more low end torque. But if your happy with how it is, then get another 49.
 
Yeah, that's barely enough to get it done. If you have the cam type saver, try tightening it up. And if you can, mount the tierod that connects the servo the the saver closer to the servo. This gives the servo less of a lever which in effect makes it stronger. The oz/in rating for servos is based off of a 1" arm.

However, if you don't have a radio that lets you adjust epa's, you may not be able too get enough servo throw to get the job done if you mount it closer.
 
I run the hitec 985MG for t/b and steering in my revo and savage. It seems to do a good job. Pretty fast, strong and sealed with o-rings. It runs 172oz/inch at 6V.

Also, there's a heavy duty spring for the savage cam type saver that I found last year. It stiffens up the saver action a bit and seems to do a better job.
