Help with new Savage XL

Hey Guys

I just got a Savage XL today, and right out of the box I'm already having issues.
I set the car up, charged the roto start and headed across the road to the oval to start breaking in the engine.

It will not start. When I have the roto in there turning its fine, but the second I stop it the engine will not run on its own. I checked twice that the engine was not flooded and both times it was fine. The fuel is all the way to the carburetor, the glow plug igniter is fully charged. The only thing that i have not yet checked is the glow plug, but that aside what could be the cause of this issue? please help.

If it is not flooded and the engine is turning over.. I would prime it a little more.
Put your finger over the exhaust hole and pop the roto-start a couple of more times.
Then try to crank it.
Also, make sure you leave the glow plug ignitor on until it is running smoothly.

hmmmm... just noticed something interesting, what fuel should I be breaking it in with? I was using a 15% sports one that I used for my RS4 evo+. Could that be causing an issue too?

It helps if its warm outside, I use 20%-30% (I wouldn't use lower personally because it only reccomends 20-30)

I think you got too much oil in the fuel. 20% fuel with 12% oil is perfect for most BB engines. You probably have like 18% oil in that fuel. The higher oil content make it hard to start and makes the OWB (One way bearing) slip.

So pick up some good 20% fuel with 12% oil. And put about 2 or 3 layers of foil over the cooling head and heat the engine up to 200F+ before starting because the 5.9K is very very hard to turn over out of the box.

mine was the same way and the HSN was too rich.

Before you start messing with the mixture, raise the idle trim on the radio during the break in.
