I have an old TRX 2.5R from a friends Revo that is no longer running. It hasn't ran in probably 2 years since he ran it without and air filter at a BMX track for probably a little less than a tank. I'm quite new to RC, but rebuilt the engine and didn't really find anything too butchered. Seems to still have good pinch and compression, no visible or obvious scoring. When trying to fire it up it will run at what seems to be like 3/4 full throttle while my glow plug igniter is in. Carb is open 1mm, needles are stock. As soon as the igniter comes out the engine dies. I checked for air leaks because of the really high RPM, found nothing. Is this a final cry before it dies completely?

No, the needles are set way too lean or there is a massive air leak somewhere.
2 years old, the O-rings in it are probably shot.

As scrogg said give the o-rings a check as it has been setting for ahwile. Also you might want to idle it down some..

One sign of an engine dying when you take off the ignitor is the LSN being set too rich. The fuel drowns out the glow plug when the ignitor isnt on there to help it stay lite and puts the fire out so to speak.
