HELP!!! Prop Nut Removal??

I am trying to remove the prop nut on my AE .15. What is the trick to this without the flywheel moving? I am getting so frustrated trying to take this damn nut off. What direction does it need to be turned? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

lefty,loosy and righty tighty grip the flywheel with your hand,if you dond have the grip use vise grips?

If the flywheel is slipping already, then its alot harder to remove. There are a couple of ways to do it. First you can get a special tool to lock your crank which I doubt you would have. Second it Ron Paris method of turning the motor upside down, pouring afterrun oil into the exhaust port to hydraulic the motor. After removing the clutch nut you just pour the oil out. If the nuts not super tight, I've used the end of a large zip tie to sanwich between the piston and sleeve through the exhaust port. If its too tight it'll cut the zip tie. I've never had it hurt the the p/s though. What ever you do don't use any thing metalic, such as a small screwdriver ect. I've seen a couple of p/s ruined from guys trying it.

too get mine off i put the flywheel in the vice and then took some viscripes and got the nut off. i worked at mine for like 3 hours.

If the flywheel is slipping bad you are pretty much going to want to lock your piston. Either obtain a piston locking tool, or, remove the header, get a toothbrush, put a rag over the handle of the tooth brush, rotate the flywheel enough to get the piston below the exhaust port, jam in the handle of the toothbrush with the rag over it and SLOWLY loosen the nut.

Invest in a flywheel wrech (either dynamite or OFNA both work great for me and I like the dynamite the best) as well as a piston locking tool (I use one by Durratrax and its a tuning screwdriver and glocaddy as well) you will be happy :thumbup:

Another locking method is a bit messy but it works great. Remove the exhaust and get the piston below the exhaust port. Fill the combustion chamber with afterrun oil. Now when you turn the engine with the nut, it will only turn until it compresses the oil then lock so you can loosen the nut. Be sure the hold the engine so the open port is facing up or you have a real mess. You need to do some engine spinning to purge the oil when you go to restart but the method works quite well.
