I just got my Nitro RC car in the mail...

I am having issues getting it started. Here is what I have done thus far:

1. Removed car, read manual etc..
2. Added the app. fuel.
3. Primed the carb
4. Put the glow plug on after only charging for a short time (maybe this is the problem)
5. Tried to crank it lol.

I havent done any good! It doesn't even act like its firing. It is also spiting a little fuel out of the exhaust pipe.. is this normal??

I have made no adjustments to the screws... I was told it should just start, and may need tuned after that. I hate to adjust anything, as I dont know what I'm doing.

Any suggestions?? I am thinking that after I make this post, I will try agian and it might start since the glow plug has charged more.

Well...I had the same problem pretty much. I hope we'll not have to go over what happened to me again!! :naughty: . Okay...I would let the glow ignitor charge over night. A way you can tell if you glow plug/ignitor is working, take out the plug and stick it into the ignitor as you would if its in the car. There's a little coil that should glow bright cherry red. If not, there are/can be two problems: Bad Glow Plug or Uncharged ignitor. If you have a guage on your ignitor, it should be in the green area if its pulling current. This is the first problem I had and then I got it started and was having problems with tuning. DO NOT TOUCH THE CARBORATOR(Carb.)!! If you have, go to your manual or manufacturers site to find you're engine's stock settings.

Which brings me to another point...what is your car/engine setup. And did you buy it RTR or a Kit?

I can't help you much as I'm having my own issues(Tuning right now) but I can help as far as getting it started.

okay... thanks for the response.. the car just started.. however, when it did... it was running like crazy. I could barely hold it back! How do I get it to idle?

Also... is there any batteries or anything that need to be installed for the reciever on the car? I would think so... but, I can't find a place to install them.

if you have icq.. and dont care, you can get on there and we can have a direct conversation. the above is my number
thanks agian

Just a few questions...

1. What kind of vehicle is it??

2. What kind of fuel are you using??

3. What kind of glow ignitor are you using??

4. Is the R/C brand new or used??

Ok, do not start the car without the receiver batteries!!!

Hold your horses. stop everything.

Your reciever in the car does need batteries. You need to make sure your servo's work before you get going!

Look in the general nitro forum and there is a guide for beginners. Take a look at that before you get going. Also look at your manual.

if you have any other questions after that ask away.

No. You want to put the glow ignitor on a couple of secs before you start to turn over the motor.

You really might want to back up like vbgagnon said and go slowly. Forgetting the receiver batteries is not good.

There could be other things that you are missing.

Do you have the air filter installed??

Do you understand the break in procedure??

Do you know how to shut off the truck?? Just like when you are learning to shoot, the first thing taught is how to check to see if a gun is loaded and HOW TO UNLOAD IT. Make sure that you know how to cut it off.

Is this a brand new truck?? A tmaxx, revo, or jato??

Do you have the traxxas dvd?? If so, have you watched it yet??

WOW!!! No wonder the car was running out of control, you didn't have any servo batteries in. Okay, in the picture I attach(at the bottem) the part where the batteries are is circled in red. It looks like you have to take off the top plate over it to acess it. It should have come with it's hardware. Okay, RC Basics. Place 8 AA batteries in the Transmitter. Acess the reciever box and put 4 AA batteries in the holder in there. ALWAYS turn the Transmitter on first...then the car. Make sure the car is in the Idle/Nuetral position. Start the motor, let it warm up for about 3 minutes and shut it off, and let it cool down COMPLETELY. Then come back to us and we'll tell you the next step.

P.S. You may want to do the following 3 minute cycle about 5 - 10 times(If you feel confident.)

EDIT: To turn the engine off, you can do one of the following: Pinch the fuel line OR Take a rag to the exaust outlet(AKA: Stinger) until it shuts itself off.

OH yes!! Remember to do After-run maintnence. You should have some After-RUn oil. If not, go to your local hardware store and pick up some Marvals Mystery Oil. It serves well as ARO and AirFilter Oil. OH YES!! OIL THE AIRFILTER!!!! There are many ways to do this, I just take a plastic bag with some MMO and work in the MMO. To do after run maintence, take out the glow plug and take off the airfilter. Squirt some ARO in the glow plug hole and down the Airfilter hole. Don't squirt alot in...just about 2 droppers full.

Update:
Its a smart tech brand.. (I think its pretty off brand or cheap if you will.. I bought it via ebay on an impuls before I checked out good trunks like the jato etc)

OKay.. the controls are working now.. I found where the batteries go. lol Will it still be trying to take off like a bat oughta hades?

okay.. I started the car, and let her run for a few minutes sitting on a block. Shut it down, then started it agian.. then agian.

It isnt running wide open any more but, still doest idle. (it would take off if it were on the ground)... how do I adjust it?

The lady working where I bought the fuel said to let it run at idle for 2-4 tanks of fuel.. then 1/4 throttle for 2 tanks.. 1/2 throttle two tanks and then on the next tank to nail it once or twice and to let it cool between each run.

everything like the air filter etc came pre oiled and I installed that

You stated that you read the manual but didn't know where the battries went????? Hummmmmmmmm.....................

okay...this isn't good. There should be some little knobs on your throttle. On should say steering trim and one should say throttle trim. You want to focus on the throttle trim. Take your transmitter and without the car on, press on the brake. Which ever way the servo goes when you do that, make the servo go that way in the throttle trim. You shouldn't be touching the transmitter other than that. Don't let it idle on a stand for 4 tanks though...only what I said what Is known as "heat cycling" Then you can do everything else as you said. Try to spread break-in out though, and If I'm correct, break-in still lasts through the first gallon.

It didnt say in the manual where to install the batteries... the controls were installed by the seller, and the manual stated that those things should be bought and installed seperately.

yup..you are right, the throttle trim was increased for easy starting...

it is sitting outside running... the throttle is at an idle, do I let it idle for a few tanks.. or should it be running some but on the block?

ROFL Revo Rancher...i'm glad mine came up first! Anyways, don't let it run on the stand without any load. I'll lay it all out for you as I did: 1-3 tanks: let it run slowly, no-more than 1/3 throttle. Go at 1/4 throttle coun'ting 1 aligator, 2 aligator, 3 aligator then apply the brakes. As this may get tedious, just do it. When you're finished doing this, come back to me please.

Damn... You got a smartech. O well.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW: (cuz I dont feel like reading all the other posts)

1. Idle- turn the idle screw (if there is one ) counter-clock wise 1/8 of a turn. Do it, start it, if it still isnt at idle, shut it off, and do it again. Repeat untill it idles. (or, you can adjust it while its on, but whatevers easier for you.)

OR, check you're throttle trim (like you did). It could be too high.

2. Reciever- Turn this on FIRST, then the radio. If you do this, and your car goes flying because of something (like it did), because of not turning on your radio (-_-) All you have to do is turn your radio on (before it hits something  ) and you have control again.

3. Make sure you have the friggen batteries in there lol

4. BEFORE I start my car everytime I turn the reciever on, then my radio, then I make sure BOTH servos are working properly before even thinking about putting that ignitor in. Just make sure the steering and throttle work, or you'll be sorry. (skip step 3 if you follow this step, doesn't really matter then)
