I’m the same way now. Oversized the motor and gear for the speed I want. I like cooler temps, long run times and don’t like fans. Just because you have all that motor, doesn’t mean you gotta use it. 👍
Fan? What's a fan? 🤣
I think I've settled on the max10 3665 3200kv combo thanks for everyone's help
I don't know the exact weight of my ET410 mini truggy, but I run an older EZRun 3652 4000kv on 2S in the thing. Stupid good motor. Most days I run it at 87% for looser conditions. That 3665 3200kv motor you chose... you should have enough motor for days running in a 2wd stadium truck.

There are all kinds of speed calcs out there. RC Talk even has one. RC Calculations on Script Asylum is a favorite of mine... https://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html

Plug in the numbers (Calc RC shown below)...

Old program which shows stock gearing from older Rustler VXL that came with 3500kv motor.

Great combos. Probably overkill for a 2wd Rustler, but I totally understand your situation. People told me my EZRun 3665 G3 was overkill for my "lightweight" SCT 4x4. Just like you, I wanted to be sure of my motor being able to handle mid-summer heat while doing 15-minute runtimes. The extra length of the 3665 shouldn't pose too much of a protection problem on your Rustler. 🤞:thumbs-up:
Hmm Obviously a longer motor sticks out more.... But It didn't even cross my mind about it actually being able to be damaged when bashing😑

i indeed have been using https://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html

It's possible to damage the stock motor when bashing Rpm makes a rear bumper for the Rustler that helps protect the motor.

Unless you are jumping and landing on stuff like branches in a tree (😅), you shouldn't have anything hit your motor, especially with a wheelie bar. I have run numerous buggies with the motors far more exposed than they are on a Rustler and I've never had any issues like the motors getting hit by anything hard enough to hurt them.

But that RPM wheelie bar mount is pretty nice. I didn't like the way it was mounted though after we installed the HR aluminum gearbox, so I changed up a couple things when I put it on our drag car. It should mount nicely on the stock gearbox though.

nice build, I've thought about the HR spur gears to upgrade to 32p but decided against so i can keep at least one gear plastic in the drive train. my traxxas light kit acts as the wheelie bar mount on mine

Yeah, for a basher, I would stay plastic.

Off-road RCs and a person putting the suspension to use... rear mounted motors come in contact with stuff. It happens. I'm more concerned about the motor mount/motor plate that is used/not used in the 272 tranny cases... support for longer motor on chassis slapping landings.

i have TRA9490G and the 272r mag transmission. i assumed this would be strong enough for the added weight
