Hey,
I bought my first "real" RC truck when I was 14 (I am now 23) and I loved the thing. It was so much fun romping around the neighborhood with a nitro breathing 4wd vechicle. To make a long story short I hit 16 and lost interest in the truck because I was to busy paying for things like car insurance and repairs. I drove the truck occastionally until it finally died out on me. I originally thought the motor needed to be rebuilt but now thinking things through it was more likely that the clutch pads were toast. Regardless of what is wrong I would like to get the truck back up and running and I figured I might as well start with a fresh motor.

I have a Kyosho Wild Dodge Ram 1/10th scale. It came with a .10 engine. I haven't modified it a whole lot. I upgraded the tires, the body, and the turn knuckles as well as a high torque servo for the steering.

Now I would like to get it back running. As far as I know everything is in good shape except for the motor and clutch. I would like to get roughly a .12 sized engine and accompanying parts. I don't need this to be a screamer just a little more peppy then it was with the .10.

How do I start, go about this? Are there only certain engines that fit mine? Are the ones that are better than the other for my truck? How about the clutch kit, does Kyosho still make it or is there someone else who does? Thanks for the help.

Jason

I can't say I'm familiar with the Kyosho Ram, but the general rule is as long as you get the side exhaust/rear exhaust thing right, and dont overpower too much, bolting them in is straight forward, unless you need an adapter plate, most of which can be bought. While you're there fit a new clutch, and possibly clutchbell and she's like new again.
OS make good .12 as do Picco. I actually prefer OS pretty much across the board. But there's plenty out there and I'm sure you'll get plenty more suggestions.

So I choose a motor, choose a clutch bell and pads to fit, line it up to the trans with proper mounts and I am all set?

yes and no... you need to adjust the gear mesh, to do that you can use the paper method (put a piece of paper between the gears and press them together till the paper is tight between the gears. also make sure you keep the same carb setup (rotary carb or slide) so youll be sure your linkage will fit
