Lately I have been running in hardpack. It has some looseness to it in some areas, but mostly hardpack/loose surface and some grass. I am currently still running the Traxxas Talons and they have worked out fairly well. But I am looking to get a new set of tires and wheels. I am probably going to end up with some Axial Beadlocks for rims for the ease of changing tires and to rid the hassle of have to glue the tires.
I will be swaping in a Picco .26max in the next week or so and know I am going to need more traction. I want to stay with a 40series because I like the look. I am pretty tossed trying to choose a tire. The ones I have in mind are the Proline Crimefighters and the Proline Mulchers. I like the agressive look of the Mulchers, but dont know how they will fair in the hardpack/loose surface areas such as BMX tracks

Can someone please offer some experience with this.

+1 on Bowties. Great grip on every surface. Once the stock Talons on my Maxx wear out I'm gonna switch to using them full time.

For racing I would also suggest Proline Bow Ties but if your going to be just bashing around I love my Moab XL's great traction every where I go..

How are the Moabs on pavement?

I'm assuming you can't use bowties on pavement correct?

What is the main difference in the Crimefighters and the Bowties? They look to have a very similar tread design.

I think the crimefighters have a smaller pin tread.....Bowties are the way to go IMO....

rule of thumb:
hard packed with light loose dusting of sand go with tires with lots of small treads that are fairly soft...the harder the dirt the softer the tread compound should be.....this gives the most contact with the surface of the track...

heavy thick dirt go with pin type longer spaced out treads (Monkey is gonna have a field day with that comment, bring it)......mulchers are a good example.....the spaced out tread allows dirt to clear out easier and leaves the pins to dig into the ground...

Road: use street tires if you run alot on paved surfaces....or Moabs, Talons, ...tires with recessed treads will give you good control on the road and offer a little traction off road

best all around would be the stuff like the big Joes and any Chevron style tread......don't really work awsome in dirt but it gives you a little traction........

Thanks guys, I think I am going to go with the Bowties and Axial's!! Ill keep the Talons around for street and grass use because they seem to work well with those types of surface

can someone please confirm that the bowtie tread is bad for pavement? i love the look but i run on pavement alot.

for pavement you will need an on road tire other wise you will just be waisting tread on a good tires thats meant for dirt. just a waist of money if you ask me

My neighbor runs his Revo with Bowties. He's had his for upwards of a year and the pins are only rounded a little on the edges. Good stuff. He mostly runs onroad.

depends if its a m2 or m3 tire m2 will last lot longer than m3 compound but m3 have better traction
