Hey everyone,

Now, first up, I should state that I am very new to the whole RC thing. I built a few electric kit cars when I was younger, but that was about 10 years ago now, and I'm looking for something a bit...quicker.

I had this in mind, it's in my price range, and looks pretty sexy:

even better, my local hobby shop sells it.

The point of the car will be to race around with my bro, and probably go along to some local RC meets and try my hand at a race or two. Mostly I'm just a tinkerer, and love everything mechanical.

My question is, is this an ok starter for a 1/8 petrol, and will it be in the same ballpark for speed, etc as the Kyosho Inferno 7.5 Sports (My brothers RC car, runs on a GX21 Engine, 3200g, buggy).

Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance everyone!

Edit - I just realised there is a difference between truggies and buggies... hooray for the noob. On that note - do they race in the same class or two completely different things?

Yeah thats a decent truggy, you wont have trouble racing it either. The 7.5 will probably be a bit quicker than the ST but not too much. Wouldn't notice it on the track as speed isn't everything. The ST comes with a decent radio so IMO it would be a good starter. And you have the trait most Rc-ers need, a need to tinker with things. Believe me, you will whether you need too or not! Have fun mate! :D

PS. Just remember to fit a failsafe before race day, with all those frequencies running around you'd hate to get a runaway on a brand new truggy!

Excelent! Thanks for the help mate, looks like i'm going shopping this weekend. Look forward to posting here more in the future!

To answer your other question, they do not race in the same class. They're two different animals in the way they behave. Kyosho makes great stuff, so anything you get from them will be top notch. If you want a buggy, get the Kyosho MP9. It's a great little rig.

Just to let you know

Well, turns out I posted in the right forum after all - Went with an GV Dominator (1/8 Buggy) in the end. I suspect the engine is just a cheap one (Force 25), but still got plenty of guts. MP9 wasn't available at the time, and a little out of my price range.

Got the failsafe, and spent 2 hours trying to get it installed. Kept just locking out the control, it was driving me nuts. That is, until I figured out that the guy at the LHS had sold me FLAT BATTERIES. So the failsafe was doing what it should have been, and locking in brakes with low voltage.

Seriously, who sells flat batteries? Probably not his fault, they were still shrink wrapped in plastic and in date, but they were Panasonic batteries, so it was to be expected. Problem solved though, went and got some energizer NiMH rechargeables for control and servos, so that should keep me going for a while.

Thanks for all the advice guys, and happy motoring!
