i remarqued that some people start their engines after heating it up with a heat gun to expand the sleeve before running it ...i was just wondering if not doing it will remarquably shorten the life of my engine....i kinda destroyed my 1st engine because of bad break-in(after 1/2 gallon the pinch is totally gone..like totally) so now that i'm installing my new o.s.18cvrx i realy want to keep it alive for a while before rebuilding it. btw i will do the heatcycle method for my break-in

A heat gun really helps in starting and getting the engine warmed up quick if you are racing. It will not really aid in prolonging engine life, proper tune will do that.

thanks for the infos, also i dont think ill be doing the break-in right now.. i'll just wait for nice warm time ...its waaaayyyyy to crappy out here to be running a touring car in winter hehe but thx

Heat guns make break in go so much easier. I've only used one once (wasn't mine or my engine), but man, it made it much easier to get it going those first few times.

I won't do a break-in if it's below 50F out. Just isn't worth the risk. Even with a sock on the head, it's hard for some engines to get warm and stay warm anyway when it's cold out.
