OK. There is no safe way to put this.

I need something to warm my head. What have you guys used to prehead your heads before you run? Please be specific.

I use a hairdryer for about 4-5 minutes, then wrap the heatsink with sheet of paper cut to the width of the head and secure it with a rubber band. The paper will block airflow to the fins and help keep your temps up.

I use bicycle inner tube with zipties or a hoseclamp wrapped around it to keep warm. To get it warm, I place it on the floor of my 1:1 car on the way to the bash site.

I've used a sock before, but I think I'm going to try some of that stuff you can wrap a hot water tank in (looks like a big silver koozie!) The Lowe's here has some smaller diameter stuff.

i use a beanie.. :jk: I've heard of cutting the tube part out of an old sock.. on my xtm the head is so big i could prolly use a coozie ( can cooler) but alas I'm in texas.. it rarely drops below 50

umm i dont know if xtm's float.. dont think so.. the 21 i had sure didnt. :( lol maby ill try it come next good rain..

I there anything you DON'T use a hose clamp for :D

Birth control. The edges are too sharp...

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about, but on my savage last winter:

Notice, you only "see" 5 hose clamps on this truck, but there is a sixth holding my receiver pack in.

OK. These are all good for keeping it warm. Have any of you "preheated" your engines before breaking them in so that you can get it up to operating temp before you even start it? I have heard of people using hair dryers and heat guns. I even saw one guy with it parked under a 100 watt bulb for a while before he started it.

i know what to get olds for xmas.. a box of hose clamps.. lol :jk: 6 on one rig huh.. i think that is a record.

Like MW said, I've read of people doing it and that it's the better way to break an engine in, but I personally haven't done it.

I have however, wrapped the head with those chemical handwarmers when I broke an engine in during the winter. It was 30 degrees out, with the hand warmers ziptied to the head, the head temp was reading 90. I ran through 8 tanks that way and the engine acts like I broke it in during the summer.

I think with some of the more expensive italian junk (sneer... stuff I can't afford), you kind of have to heat the head your you can't even turn it over.

hey I've seen aluminum foil used in a pinch but i like the hose clamp idea nice.
