the windshield has a cut out to fill the tank, i like how the black plastic wall seperates it from the rest of the electronics when filling it like this.. i bet i finish breaking cooling fin on it too..

that beetle body is my next victuim.. i took it from my touring car to see duribility issued before i use the sweet purpal body on it..

well i got it tonight.. 373 out the door.. shop owner likes me i guess.. got discount.. what i see on the car i like..

it has CVDs for center drive shafts and front wheels, aluminum braces, the shock towers are thicker, has front and rear sway bar, has a set of really cute rubber booties on the shocks, 2 front brake disks, 1 rear, all steel, 3 shoe clutch set up, so far I'm impressed with everything except the engine mounts.. they are for 21 bb sized engines and are not adjustable like a ofna is..

well i tore it down and rebuilt it.. just to double check quality issues.. what kinds of goodies/dissapointments did i find.. hmmmm

it comes with dif lock oil in the diffs, they were not topped off as full as i see for the savage, i have no idea what weights there were.. so i refilled them...

NEXT those who want a 4 pin diff set up, hows this soung.. the diffs on it are the SAME as a savage.. yep same.. the plastic housing and all, the metal gears are steel, and are of lighter material though.. need to save a few grams racers  ill post part #s later.. i think the actual plastic housing is of better quality than the plastic used on the savage also.. too bad the metal gears look of poorer quality..

besides the lack of oil in the diffs (not as full as i see in pics of 4 spider gear set ups for a savage).. and no idea of what the fluids are in it stock.. thats all i saw.. the diff cases need sealed like a savage.. so i took care of that at the same time..

i used my 21bb i had from my savage all broken in with my 16t cb i have for the savage.. it is unreal how fast it is..

Another HB Lightning PRO owner in the house!

We both have the lightning pro and we both have the Hyper .21 8-port race. My 8-port is obviously in my lightning pro. :hehe:

I don't know if you used the diff gaskets to seal it up or not. They typically don't come with the buggy. If you get the diff gaskets from HB and install them, you'll have issues with spacing and the gears.

Also the kyosho mp75 diff gears are a direct fit. I haven't had any diff issues yet, I think that's mainly because I haven't messed with them.

Things I've added / changed:

The engine
tires: proline knuckles front and back
kyosho wing
kyosho fuel filter
jr xs3 radio

Thats it. I haven't had to fix anything (aside from the wing). I did make a boat of work for myself and removed the purple ano from a lot of the parts. It's lookin very sharp now.

Congrats on the purchase of a great buggy.

mine had the rubber gaskets liek a savage has.. and thanks for the tip on the what else uses this diff, today i got to race it.. I'm running my 4 gal old 21bb from my savage in it, sold the stock one for 75$ =) already, with plans to buy a picco 26.. i have a savage with a 8 port race in it, and figure ill have a oppertunity now to try the differances..

all i can say is wow.. I'm very impressed with how it ran today, handled.. i ended up adjusting the rear sway bar to eliminate some of the push i had, but i love how it has all the adjustments it does..

the set screws for ride height in the lower cotrol arms is trick, the pure adjustability of it is pure awsome..

myself, I'd stay with some thing race legal (.21). that why I went with the 8-port race. ;)

my track allows anything u can put in it.. but i have a 8 port race in my savage.. so i can still do that also.. but gives me a excuse to buy a picco, the picco in a savage is to much for the track i race at.. but should be killer in the buggy..

that sounds cool. if you end up with both engines, be sure to tell us which one has more power. The 8-port race has the same HP as the .26 picco (2.7 HP). I'm just curious if it's really true in a real world application. It would be cool, for example, to throw the picco into the savage just to compare the power of the picco against the 8-port race. It would be the perfect test environment.

Don't know if you're making the right choice with a Picco .26, on the OFNA website forum there are dozons and dozons of threads on problems with the engine. Someone I know has one and he hates it and says he should've gotten an XTM 24.7 or Force .25 instead. Good luck if you do get a Picco .26. :wasted:

thats why i am waiting 1 more month before i plunk $ down on it.. i could have gotten a picco when i got my 8 port but decided to wait to see the problems be found and fixed firt.. and yep thats the idea.. see which is better suited for the buggy, i know th epicco is to much for my track in a savage, but a buggy flys as is..

i hate my buggy looking like everyone else at teh track this past weekend.. so time to buy a new bod right.. so here it is.. its a proline crowd pleaser.. took a little moddign to fit, but i think it does not look to bad on it..

i was playing around with the low pressure fine tip and my assortment of parma paints.. there was no waiting between coats (did not even clean the old color out of the brush, there was no masking other than the windows, i started with the bright green, then bright blue, and ended in dark blue after i sprayed it all with faschange gold.. there is about 12 colors in this body, looks pretty sweet right?? :D

P.S. i also have a set of blue wheels on order for it.. just on major back order at this time..

I was about to say... you still have the stock wheels? :wtf: I got proline knuckles pre-mounted on white dishes.

My wing is white. The head on the 8-port race is aluminium silver. I stripped all of that fairly purple ano off the steering arms, the shock towers, the radio tray, the shock caps and most of the visiable supports. When I put the stock white and black body on, it looks damn sweet. It's like all black and white. I should take some pics. :D

For me, it's less about the bling bling and more about the performance anyway.

Lets see some pics of yours NoviceRob. I have been thinking about getting into the buggies. From what I have read the HB Lightning Pro sounds like the most bang for my buck. Where did you guys purchase yours at?

I got mine at www.rcboyz.com Sadly, I bought the very last one on the shelf. I got it for an insane $340 shipped!

I'll take some pics tonight or tomorrow morning if I get some PC time.

I've lost a couple of screws and an eclip so far. Those are the only repairs I've had to do.

Some of the stock stuff is cheap and cheap on purpose. Those tires blow. The paint on the body comes off too easy. The stock wing will bust right out of the box. The stock engine is weak. The stocke pipe isn't that great. The shock springs are kind of weak.

All of those things I meantioned are "freebies". I mean they build this awsome chassis, sell it to you for an insane $350 then they toss on a body, four wheels, a wing and an engine for FREE.

That's how I look at it.

You can't buy a chassis that is this tough for less than $450, and you can just forget about getting, wheels, body and an engine with any of those kits.

It's a damn good deal.

My LHS has one on the shelf for like $360 (what he quoted me when I was going to get it). I donno what he'd charge for shipping. PM me if you want me to ask him.

Here's a current pic of my buggy:

(in the background you can see the whore('s) house)

You can see I've removed most of the visible purple ano. I think it looks sharp with the white wing and white wheels.

Here you can see I've removed the ano from the major supports, the radio tray and that piece that sits over the center diff.

Compare my mine to the stock one:

I'm not a big fan of purple. I've got a few more pieces to work on but I'll wait until I have to take those parts out for other reasons.

well teh ofna Y spoke blue wheels are on back order.. i dont care for the aro dish look, or the other flurcent colors, and most all the other people running at the track ahve white, so I'm goign to different, i also ordering some road rages and stiff 3 piece foams for them, i am running rr on my savage on the track with great results on hardpacked dirt..
