After introducing myself in the other forum, I've done a LOT of reading. On here and other places. I should have done this BEFORE buying my son his car a year ago. This is what I bought. (http://www.exceedrc.com/51c06.html ) I just didn't think. Maybe I hoped it would just keep magically trucking. It didn't. It's dead.
A few things I didn't do. No break in period. Old fuel. Never cleaned air filter.Never kept piston on BDC when off.
Never learned how to make adjustments. This thing would fire up and take off like a jet.It wouldn't sit at idle. I never saw smoke from the exhaust...etc..etc...I didn't want to be bothered. As long as it ran, my son was happy.
Now I need a new one. One that I WILL take care of.Become familiar with the adjustments...etc
My son uses it mostly on the road and into the cut grass and dirt of a baseball field. He's really good on the controls and has a blast with it.(he's almost 13.)
I was thinking of getting the Traxxas Nitro Sport.Does this sound like a good choice? I keep seeing the name Traxxas coming up so I assume it's a good brand.
Any feedback would surely help.
Thanks in advance.

Nice wheel man!!! Done alot of reading too, but my main knowledge i have gotten here so i say your in good hands here. For the traxxas trucks, I'm not too familiar but other poeple here knows alot about. Sorry i couldn't help and Good Luck Bro!!:)

Traxxas makes quality products I have found. Everyone carries them, and hopups are everywhere lol. I might sujest a Jato though, or even a Revo. The sport maxx is a old style car should I say. The T-maxx 3.3 is good to but, it breaks fairly easy when bashed. If you get a traxxas vehicle, make shure you get one with a 3.3. The 3.3 is a way better motor the the 2.5 and is much easyer to tune I have found. Another great truck is the HPI Savage. It is a tank and has a nice engine in it and again, hop ups are everywhere, along with spare parts. Keep looking around, and I'm shure more people will chime in on this subject.

Traxxas is a fairly reputable company. They have some good products and there are a lot of aftermarket parts are available for the higher-end vehicles. My first nitro was a Revo 3.3 and it was a lot of fun right out of the box. I don't know what your budget is, but you might want to consider one of the Traxxas monster trucks (Revo or Maxx series). They cost a bit more but also have better durability and aftermarket support.

The Rusty is a good 2wd stadium truck. I think it only comes in 2.5 though. If you're looking for a ST, go with the Jato. Faster and has some stuff that the Rusty doesn't.

I got my TMaxx for an incredible $320 without taxes. No joke. My LHS was having a sale apparently (wish I would have asked about the Savage at the time :| )

I was looking at the skill level rating on the Traxxas website. The Jato is rated the highest skill level. What exactly does this mean? I'm no expert by a LONG shot.

The higher the rig is rated the faster and harder to controll it is. Bryson pretty much nailed it on the head. Lots of parts out there for the HPI Savage and Traxxas rigs.

Traxxas does have a few nice rides. My first MT was a Maxx. I think if you're looking for a good all-around ride, I would consider the Revo or maybe the Jato. If you're interested in other brands, maybe the HPI MT2. It's 4WD and I think it's a bit more suited to all-purpose driving. Food for thought....

I know the new Maxxes (at least the 3.3...) are by far MUCH better than the original ones. I only recently broke my first major part on it--threw a drive shaft because my slipper was too tight. I've had it for almost 6 months now.

I have a T-Maxx because of the aftermarket support and the upgrade options. I've enjoyed upgrading mine a lot, but I also just bought a savage because it is a much heavier duty truck and I want something stronger, as I have 50 acres to bash on. I got my T-Maxx for $320 total shipped to my door. I have gained much of my knowledge on here, and you can learn as much as you want to about taking care of a truck on here. I'm sure that now that you know how to take care of one, your son will learn and catch on and hopefully he will want to start working on it and learning more about it on his own.

no!! dont do jato
tires are made for street as is the whole st
80 dollars later ane you can fix the street tire problem this thing is hard to control and is basicly a dragcar

Yeah... but it's pretty fun if you gear it down a bit. Still pretty uncontrollable if you have a heavy trigger finger, but I have a good time with it every time I take it out. I find it hard to NOT jump it too far!

Not something I'd recommend for a newer person though...

I would recommend either the Maxx or a Revo. The Revo is extremely capable, but more expensive.

What about the Nitro Rustler. Model 4409. comments??

Rustlers are great for the terrain your son will be running it on and it is a pretty tough truck. Replacement parts and hop ups are easy to find.

Don't feel bad, my first was a Duratrash.

Wish I found this site before I bought it....
