Will GS Storm front buggy shocks work on a T-Maxx and are they any good? I've got a chance to get 4 in a trade and want to know your comments on them. Thanks for your time and have a good weekend.

The rear shocks would perform much better. The rear shocks are about the same length as stock T-Maxx shocks. Front buggy shocks are shorter. Does this mean you can't use them on the T-Maxx? Not at all. All it means is that if you do use them, you will lose about 1/2 to 1 inch in ride height as the shorter shocks will not allow the truck to have the full suspension travel that it is designed to have.

I run buggy shocks on my maxx and really like them. But like sky said, they are the rear shocks off a 9.5 buggy (not sure who makes the 9.5, but that's what I remember).

Are you positive they are the rear shocks? I know UE uses front's for their supershocks.

Buggy shocks are short in the front and long in the rear. I have a set of Mugens on my Savage and drive a Mugen MBX-5 Buggy. Trust me, they are the rear shocks (I have compared them).

If UE is using front shocks for their super shocks, then they must have some kind of hybrid set up or are running with a lower ride height. They might also be using the front shock bodies with rear shock piston rods (not a good idea, but does maintain the ride height).

I'll check out the UE set up and see what I can figure out.

OK here's the deal. I have a Super Brain 959 charger I got on a lot deal with a Hitec Lynx 3d transmitter, XXL receiver with 64 and 84 channel, Novak Millenium charger, 5 cell hump pack (sold to my step-dad), and the Super Brain. After I sell the hump pack to my step-dad I will have $160 in the rest of it. So I'm thinking it would be a good deal to swap the Super Brain 959 for the GS Storm front shocks plus 4 regular T-Maxx shocks.
Pics of shocks

I won't lose that much ride height if you look at the picture. Just a tad smaller. I don't do major jumping and just run at a local track. Let me know what you think.

Put them on. They are probably stronger than the stock shocks. I don't know if I would blend the two though. I'd run 4 only.

I run 4 of the buggy shocks on a 21 converted maxx with no problems.

Based on your picture, you should be good to go. You may find that you don't even need the stock shocks, and can run with one shock at each corner.

Olds', If the shocks you are talking about are the UE set and they are too long, then it sounds like they are using the rear shocks and possibly some longer rod ends on the shock shaft.

Either way, this looks like it will work.

The rears work just fine. I've had a set of 8 on my hybrid maxx for quite some time now without problems. They are Kyosho's and pretty close to the same performance as the GS.

I'd save the money for something else. I have been running a set of four on my Savage (translate that to mean a much heavier truck) for some time now. No problems, and they handle just about everything...in fact am still looking for something they can't handle.

Thanks for the input sky. I hadn't felt like dropping another $60 without it being a necessity.

I ran the crap out of it today with no ill effects. I had a hard time controlling it though. New engine, added about .7hp. Had an OS RG in it, now I have an Omega 21 that cranks out 2.5hp. I'm having a hard time keeping it under control and keeping the front end from pointing at the sky.

Good to hear. At least someone got to burn some nitro today. No lecture to come on the wheelie issue, but there are low cost cures.

As in what? Less wide open throttle?

I'm just so used to the OS yet. I have about 3 quarts through this engine and it's just getting more stable and stronger with the more fuel I throw through it. 1/2 throttle puts it on it's lid. Not that I'm complaining, but it's a definate learning curve.

I was thinking along those lines, but I was more thinking along the lines of gearing and slipper clutch set up.

You could regear the clutch bell and/or spur gear for a more top speed type gearing. And on the slipper clutch, you could loosen it up a bit to allow for more slippage prior to engagement. Might help keep the wheels on the deck.

If those don't work, you could always try this old remedy...tie a brick to the front.
