Hey guys (and gals)...

I recently purchased a set of GPM's steel swing axles for the Maxx 2.5 and after 15 tanks of 21 power (first 8 tanks easy running break-in), they are almost shot.

The ears that go into the out drives of the diff's are almost completely worn through. I picked up a set of RD Logics cvd's from my LHS for $50 (they had a sale for new store opening).

I'll post pics when I get them apart to show the wear. Very dissapointed.

Here's a pic of the GPM's when they are new to give you an idea of what they are if you haven't seen them yet:

Here's a pick after 15 tanks of fuel:

Notice the hooks that were created out of the ears? Yeah, not good.

I'm not the bitching sort. Just the informative sort. I look at things like this as a lesson learned. A $60 lesson, but a lesson none the less.

I bought them from a site located in Hong Kong for half the price I have found here in the states. Maybe this contributed to the failure, but I doubt it.

Just send them a kind e-mail and you might be suprised at the service you get, there was a thread in here just a little bit ago on the 5th about "Racers Edge Quality Control" on a set of skids and NCNitro said he sent them a nice email and not only did they replace them, they upgraded them!! So my advice would be to send them an email. Theres no harm in trying.

You might want to think about just getting some new harden pins. Then get them pressed in. I have had it done to some of mine.

??? Pressed in ???

Can this be done by hand? I am thinking about doing something like that, but wasn't sure how to put the new ones in and keep them in. I was going to try to hammer the ones out that are in it and put something in. While the old ones were out, I would drill and tap a hole in the end of the ball for a set screw. There's enough material there for that I think.

The old ones should be a hardened steel so trying to drill them will be useless. I just used a vise to push the old ones through until flush on one side then I used a pair of good old Vise-Grips to pull it out the rest of the way. To push the pin in. You could use a plastic hammer(do not in any way use a metal hammer to tap it in as it will most likely damage your new pin)or use the vise again to push them in. I used the vise myself and it worked quite well. Biggest thing to remember is to ensure there is the same amount of pin on both sides of the ball.

i got the Duratrax CVD's for my sportmaxx. i havent had a chance to run them, because i need to break in my new OS .15 cv-x, but they look good, rubber booties and all. lol.

i have had a OS .15 CV-x in my TRAXXAS Nitro stampede, and tons of power, easy to tune, i loved it. touched the throttle and i had wheelies like nothing. this is my 3rd OS engine i have bought, but the 1st time i have put one in my sportmaxx.

I replaced my GPM's with the RD Logics as well. I ran about a half gallon through my 21 maxx this weekend and there isn't a bit of wear on any of the new cvd's.

On the OS 15 note, I ran the OS 15 cv-r(x) in my maxx and didn't like it. Not enough power to haul it around without hitting excess of 260 all the time. Maybe a sport maxx, but I think the 4wd was just to much. This was even after I dropped down to 18/72 clutchbell/spur.

I run the same engine in my xxx-nt and it really kicks A** in it. That's running temps around 220 all day long.

Hey Olds -

That freaking sucks dude. I was thinking about getting the GPM Ti cvds for front and rear. Half a gallon in one weekend huh...lmao. You remind me of myself.

Domination - Thanks for the link bro, for that price I'm gonna try them out.

When I play, I want to play. None of this mambie pambie 15 minutes of driving crap. If I go out, I want my truck to last at least 2 hours worth of harsh driving/wrecking. In the end, I try to buy parts that will get me through 3 hours worth of driving. That's all the longer my batt packs last me.

Thanks for the help.

Use a set of calibers to find out the size in length and diameter. Then just do a search on the net for hardened pins. I managed to get my pins through a local machine shop. It was also on Savage that I did this but you should be able to do it for a Maxx also.
