Well, after a few days of waiting, UPSanta came today. I've been so excited about this Digital SLR (Canon EOS 20D) and it seems that I'm taking pics of everything now. What a difference when compared to my other cam (Fuji Finepix 3800). Here are some pics I snagged today. Had to resize them but man, I love the clarity and definition of the pics. I would suggest getting one if you ever have the chance to do it. You won't regret it!

Poor cat, I was chasing her all around trying to take her picture.

What does one do with a new digicam? Take a pic of the new overdrive side pulley he just installed!

Just a pic of the rear part of the 710.

Those are some clear pics. Thats one badass camera you got there.

Thanks Svenz. I have always been into photography since highschool but the digital cams these days are becoming more and more advanced. Almost to the point of, sometimes surpassing, the analog media. I will always keep my analog equipment but I still love the leaps and bounds that digital slr's make as technology grows. One thing is for sure, just as in r/c's, you get what you pay for.

My fuji finepix 3800 is good for quick shots when sight seeing but this EOS 20D out shines it. The first picture in this thread is with my Fuji. Compare it to the 20D and it shows. Hopefully, I'll learn this camera so I can use it's full potential soon. Reading the manual is like being back in college studying for my International Business Law class. I'm just glad it comes with a little "pocket manual" for when you get all confused.

I just got the canon G6 and it also is a A$$ kicking Camera. Canon realy got the jump on this digital stuff.

The G6 is what I was looking at when I was interested in just a "quick shot" type of camera but I got a really good deal with the Fuji on Ebay. Only reason I got the 20D is becuase it's just like a 35 mm SLR in many ways. Strictly for taking pictures on a more dedicated platform. I was looking at the 10D a few weeks ago because of a freelance automotive sports photographer I met at the LHS. I was quite impressed with it. I did my research, looked at a few other brands and came back to Canon. Just as you said, they got the jump and are always looking to reset the "bar."

I love my Canon, I will never by anything else. The best is how it can focus on close up's. My old Sony could never do this.

Damm I need to clean that thing up. never mind weekend is almost here.

how much?nice pics. i saw some camera on ebay for like 10 grand now thats crazy....

For the body, lens, Lithium Ion battery & charger plus an 80x 1gb CF card ... the bill was over 1700.

The Canon Mark1 D is averaging about 8 grand. Remember, this camera is 16megapixels and is professional grade. Only people I see using this are professional photographers.

Nice "Kitty", LOL Didn't mean you have to post em here, just giving you some ideas. :) Do you have a Canon 35mm? That's what I liked the most was the ability to swap lenses and such with the 35mm as long as they are EF. You'll find yourself taking photos of all kinds of stuff now just for shits and grins. BTW, on the rebel, if you use continuous numbering it will reset to 0001 on the 10,000 picture. Depending on how you store photos and file them on your puter, you'll just want to watch for that so you don't start to overwrite anything.

I have a lot of canon lenses but not the EF type. I wish I could use these lenses with the 20D. It would save me a whole lot of money but unfortunately, these are the old analogs and are completely manual.

Thanks for the heads up on the filing system. I usually d/l everything to my laptop when I am done for the day. But when I start taking it on trips as well as races, I'll be extra careful about overwriting but that shouldn't be a prob since I have the extremely large CF. Do they get any bigger?

One question, how is RAW format an advantage when retouching the picture with photoshop? I always thought that it didn't matter, even with jpg since I do it like that already.

How adjustable are the aperture settings on that thing? The second picture of the kitty shows you have the aperture with a small field of vision, causing the foreground and background to blur. Can the aperture be used to focus full field?

BTW, great pics. I love the detail.

For the kitty picture, I did that purposely. Only wanted to get her eyes in focus. As far as the aperture, shutter speed and iso speed, I finally got up to that chapter in the manual. I can go completely into a manual mode and bypass all programing, including the white balance.

I decided to read it fully after many hours of frustration. You know how it is, wanna play instead of read. Typical man, right? NAAAAH, just don't want to waste any time playing!

I thought you might have messed witht he aperture. I am an old A1 and F1 user. Can't get used to digital for real pictures yet. Stopping down the F will make some neat effects. Most digi cameras will not let you have too much adjustability for the F stop. If you tried that with a lesser camera the rear would be out of focus, like you had it and wanted it, but your subject and the foreground would be in focus. Very cool camera!

I still have my analog equipment. Been into photography since high school. I have, sitting on the shelf, The Canon "New F-1" when it was still new, The AF, AL-1 and the A-1. It's just hard going from completely analog to digital. Got used to dials and rings, not pushbuttons. Don't get me wrong, I won't get rid of my 35mm equipment. Still have lots of life left in my enlarger. I just wanted to get the Digital SLR to further the hobby.

I don't know which of my hobbies is more expensive ... photography, SCUBA, Fishing, R/C's or my 1:1 cars. If it's not one, it's the other.

Actually, my favorite camera which I still use is my AE-1 Pro. Very few made it to the U.S. It is easy to use and when using a quality lense, takes pretty good pics.

Yep, nothing like those dials and click stop settings. Plus, I like slides and B&W's, so until they get BW better, I will stick with what I know!! Ilford all the way, man!!!

I love my Canon AF. It's a dinosaur but it's completely analog. Nothing automatic. Makes have to either know what you're doing or at least be proficient with a light meter when possible. The Canon's revision of the F-1 is nice as well but it has a manual that's as thick as websters dictionary! Lot's of functions but still has the ability to go completely manual. More bells and whistles to play with which means more accessories to buy.
