I got my Hyper 7 TQ Black today and I am getting it ready as we speak for the "Break-in" which will be done in the morning. First thought on the 7 are quality but I have noticed that the shocks are nasty, push the buggy down and it wont come back up but I have read that they should be replaced with White springs which I will do in the near future.

I need some advice on breaking it in, I have read all there is on the heat cycle break in but I am still a bit confused. Do I leave the carb at factory settings then start it and run it up to temp (200 degrees. 2-3 mins) or do I have to set the carb before running it?

no help from me, but congrats!!!! pics?

Factory settings are really really rich to start with, so you might even have to lean it to keep it going IF its bad. But probably not.
Never adjust the needles without the engine running

Hmm, my Picco bugy neeedles where set dead on for break-in. Very similar engines, same carb and block. Pre-heat it and run it like it is and go from there.

Running it rich during break-in shouldn't be an issue. The extra oil/fuel spilloff from running rich should help in flushing out any metal shavings or cruft created during break-in. I'd suggest only adjusting factory defaults if you're having a hard time reaching your target temps because it's rich.

Once you've done the cycle break-in, go nuts and lean things out to where you find the sweet spot.

Didnt get the chance to break it in today but I got a couple of hi torque servos and fitted them which was an pain as the new servos are slightly taller so I had to put a few spacers under them so they sit ok.

She's very purty! I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a buggy and the TQ Black so far is the front-runner for what I want to spend this month.

Do you have some up close pics with the body off?

If you have a manual for your engine, the base settings should be in there. I always adjust the carb before firing it up for the first time, then I know they are set properly. I've received new engines with the needles almost falling out and once with the HSN completely screwed in! Either situation would have made for a rough first tank.

Rarely have I been able to hit 200F within the first tank. Normally by the end of tank two do I lean it enough to get the temp that high, but don't be surprised if it takes more than 2 tanks to get over 200. The point is to get the temps up, but not so quickly that you damage the engine.

Started 2 break it in today so far its had 2 tanks at 1/4 throttle but I can only get the temp upto about 155. The glow starter went flat as it will only run with it on, and I have 3 blisters on my fingers even though I was wearing gloves (OUCH)

If it only runs with the heater on, then I'd lean it out a bit so you can take the heater off. Especially if your already on tank two. You might need to bump the idle up a bit to keep it going until it becomes more stable after more fuel.
