  1. Bashing
Guys, I'm a fairly stout fan of HPI stuff, but a coworker has a Traxxas Slash he got at a media function (has a custom SVT Raptor body on it) and he's letting me bash it for the next week while out of town. I got it from him today and it's sitting here on my desk. Just rolling it back and forth I feel a distinct "bump-bump-bump" in the rear wheels. It almost feels like a high spot on the spur or maybe something inside the motor. Since I'm not familiar with these I wanted to make sure the Titan 12T motor didn't do this out of the box.

Anything I should look for before I run this thing? Thanks!

Mark

I'd pop the pinion off to hear the tranny and motor separate. Then follow it from there. The mesh may be just a tad too tight. Most of my trx spurs aren't quite perfectly round. Makes for a small sweet spot.:)

Thanks...

I had a meeting to go to tonight, so got home too late to check it. He's a total noob, so either it's been like this out of the box, or he banged it up/got something lodged in it while running it. I'll pop the spur cover off this weekend and see what I find. Might try some motor cleaner and lube the motor bearings, as I bet he hasn't done anything to this looking at the amount of dried grass I blew off of it today...

Sounds like a good plan. These new trannys are very stout, so I would suspect you'll find the issue in the drive line or mesh. Should be bashing in no time.:)

Just a follow up for Matt and anyone in the future...

Spur mesh was fine. I even pulled the gear off and checked the slipper itself. It turned out to be in the motor. I'm suspecting it is just the motor's magnetic field, as when I turn the pinion gear I can feel it in my finger tips. Anything more than a super slow crawl across the workbench you don't feel it.

Took it to an abandoned R/C track in the next town (hard packed clay and not maintained) and ran three packs through it. Lots of fun but everything I own is 4WD so it was a learning experience getting control of it.

I think I'm going to sell one of my MT2s and pick up a Blitz (just cause I'm an HPI guy)...

Thanks again...
Mark
